  • cheating???

What were to happen if on my 12th day I cheat? Then go an extra week or whatever to make up for it?

it's my 10th anniversary and we are going to splurge at a restaurant that I've always wanted to eat at.
Most of my food will be meats and protein but I want a few desserts.

is that okay? Or will it COMPLETELY throw me off? Just for that lunch will be "off the diet" and the rest of the day stick to the diet and for the next week.

It's a $50 a person place so I really want to get my money's worth! and 10 year wedding anniversary is special. Am I making excuses? Or can they be valid excuses?!

I wouldn't back track. That's easy for me to say...I'm not the one at this restaurant. However, I've been out countless times with my husband or family and had every opportunity to cheat, but found ways around it. Fill up on the delicious legal cuisine and then satisfy your sweet tooth with a fine coffee.

If you are going to use the excuses you have to cheat I don't think anyone here is going to change your mind otherwise. Just keep in mind that 1 cheat can undo THREE DAYS of fat burning, and it will most likely stall you! Good luck on your decision and happy anniversary!

wow 3 days really? Hmm not sure that will be worth it.
if they have sugar free dessert is that fine?
Or is coffee with sugar substitute better?
I will avoid bread! never been to this restaurant so i really wanted to just splurge! I'll do my best to stay on track though. Because then I will always be giving myself excuses right?!!!

remember its a way of life not a crash diet, if you really want those desserts i can't say don't have them.
but for me , i noticed the more I cheat the more I want to cheat.
the less I cheat the less I am hungry.
The longer I am on atkins the less my appetite is.

It depends on what they sweeten the dessert with. You want to stay away from Aspartame since it is a known staller. However, I don't think a sugar free dessert will hurt you nearly as much as a sugar full dessert.

I usually choose cheese for a dessert (no biscuits or crackers) - even if it is not on the menu it would be worth asking for it.

I sometimes even ask for a chunk of cheese instead of a piece of cake when out with others who are getting coffee and a cake, so I can sit and eat with them and have never been refused if they have it in the kitchen.

Best of luck to you making this decision I have been there many times sometimes making the choice to stick to my plan and somedays falling right into the carb trap ........ my caution to you would be this ...... right now you are in control and in ketosis which is driving you not only to be losing fat but also giving you lots of energy and focus ....... one night out can change a lot! For me a cheat takes me at least three days to recover from and the road afterwards is not easy cravings are stronger and my drive weaker. And on the flip side if you do cheat and don't have those feelings or sideeffects it makes it that much easier to say yes to foods you shouldn't have the next time. You are the only one who can decide whats best for you ........... we're here to support you regardless ......... if you stay on track we'll cheer you on and send high fives your way and if you choose to go off plan then we will also behere to encourage you as you find your way back on track ........

Are you using a lot of sweetened foods or sweetener at the moment? I found that by not using the 'allowance' of up to 3 sweeteners a day on induction I virtually managed to kill my sugar monster.

If you feel you 'must' have sweet after the main course you need to prepare and bring something with you that is 'legal' rather than eating a full-sugar dessert supplied by the restaurant.

Or order a decaf cofee with cream and add sweetener to that in place of a dessert.

Have you contacted the restaurant to see what would be available? You might find them helpful to supply a 'legal' alternative if you give them some advance warning.

If you want to lose weight, don't eat the deserts, or anything illegal.

If there is such a huge issue with going there and getting your moneys worth, go somewhere else. I'd prefer to not get my moneys worth rather than stack on a pile of weight. Stop making excuses you're meant to be showing self control and strength. Not trying to me mean but listen to what you're saying... Food isnt what makes an evening, being happy that you're with who you're with after so long is what you're celebrating, not the chefs ability to make a nice cake. Theres cake everywhere. Just dont eat it.

                          You are right.
I am actually only trying to loose about 9lbs and then maintain. that's my goal. I've been stuck in this rut for YEARS now.

                            Re: cheating???

There is always going to be some "special" event. Always. Why does the specialness of the event have to be about food? My wedding truly didn't revolve around food. My celebration of our marriage doesn't have to involve food in any way. I had a superb dinner tonight of shrimp, lobster and steak. Didn't need any dessert or drink or anything that would make me feel like I dishonored my own desires/wishes (to lose/maintain weight).

The honest truth is, that while we all are trying to support you in NOT falling victim to behaviors that caused your weight gain to begin with, the decision is yours to make. When you eat something off plan, it does not affect us, or any of your loved ones, in any way. It is 100% YOUR decision when you sit down at that restaurant or "event" to either HONOR your own desires/wishes/goals or not.

I, personally, hope that you choose to honor yourself and your commitment to eating only those foods that are healthy for your body and help you attain those goals.
