  • flaxseed?

This is my 5th day on Induction so far 5 pounds lost!!

So I just bought some flaxseed from Trader Joe's. Actually flaxseed meal to be exact.. I didn't want to buy the whole one because I would have to grind them in the coffee grinder every time I would use it. I bought it because I heard it cures constipation. I've been searching and I can't find anything on how to eat it?

I poured 2 Tablespoons into a bowl with 1/4 cup of water and microwaved for 30 seconds and it became gummy and gooey like oatmeal and ate it. I hope thats how you eat it?

    any suggestions?

    Re: flaxseed?

my favorite way is the muffin in a minute in the recipe section. it calls for 1/4 cup which is actually about 3 full measuring tablespoons. it is slightly stretching it for induction but the flaxseed is mainly fiber and I really feel the need for getting maximum fiber on this diet. Plus I think they are delicious

        Re: flaxseed?

        Hello,
I love hot flaxmeal cereal. I make it all the time.
2 Tbls flaxmeal (allowed for Induction)
        1/4 cup water
        1 tbls. heavy cream
        1 tbls. butter
        sweetner if you choose
microwave for 1 minute 20 seconds.
Thats great that you limited your flaxmeal to 2 tbls. which is all you're allowed for Induction. You are allowed more when you get to rung 3 seeds and nuts.
Also I like to sprinkle my flaxmeal on my salads. Gives it a nutty flavor.
Enjoy, flaxmeal is so healthy for you. Many health benifits to eating it.

Thanks! the hot flax cereal sounds yummy! I just don't know what kind of heavy cream to buy at the store.. and it's supposed to be unsalted butter right?

I feel so hungry all the time.. Do i suppress my appetite or eat?

this is my 7th day and I've only lost 5 pounds! =(

If you feel hungry between meals, eat a high fat snack. My favorite is a boiled egg, or a deviled egg.

Congrats on your 5 pound loss! That's fantastic!!

During Induction, if a person can lose 5 to 10% of the total weight they wish to lose, they are not metabolically resistant to weight loss. 10% of 35 pounds is 3.5 pounds, so in just 7 days you have surpassed what you were expected to lose during the 14 days of Induction - so no frowns!

And I hope you realize, that weight loss is not linear... meaning, it doesn't come off consistently in time or in amounts. Patience is SO key to this way of living. With 62 pounds to lose at my re-start in Feb '07, I lost 7 pounds during my clean Induction. I lost 5 the first week, and 2 the second week, even though I ate the same thing during the second week as I did in the first. But, the total lost for the 2 weeks was a bit over 10% of the total weight I needed to lose. My average rate of loss from start to finish was between 1 and 2 pounds a week (including Induction)... so there were some weeks I lost 2 pounds, some I lost 1, and some that I lost none. But, those losses surely did add up!

So, my point is ~ you're doing great!

Hello and congrats on the 5lbs! Try this site www.foodsalive.com I just recently ordered some onion garlic flavored flax crackers (amazon has the cheapest I've found). There are several other flavors available, just make sure you don't over do it, since you still in the induction phase---good luck and welcome

RE: feeling hungry all the time.

You really shouldn't be feeling hungry. If you are you are either not eating enough food or you aren't eating enough fat.

                      Re: flaxseed?

Hrm... I actually make the hot cereal without the butter - just 2T flaxmeal, a packet of splenda and some heavy whipping cream heated in the microwave.

I also use a little if I'm cooking and the recipe calls for a starch to help thicken something - if I add a tablespoon or so it thickens up.

I use flaxseed to make a induction friendly cookie the recipe is in the dessert section. Only tried it the other day but i love it because ive been wanting somethign sweet that i could eat induction, now that ive found this i think i can successfully pass induction again.

The good thing about buy seeds instead of the meal is that flax gets rancid really fast so keep it in the refrigerator and freezer if you rarely use it.
I don't like the cereal because it feels slimy to me, but I adore the muffins and make them often.
