how does that work? I chew sugarless gum and one slice is 1gm of carbs, but it also says 1 gm of sugar alcohol. does that mean that they balance out and I count no carbs, or do I count it as having the one carb.

Re: sugar alcohols
I checked Atkins - Acceptable Foods and it said.........
But if you see your self stalling and not losing, I would cut back on the sugar alcohols.most sugar alcohols have a minimal effect on blood sugar and are acceptable

Re: sugar alcohols
I asked this because sugarless gum has been a big lifesaver for me and my sugar cravings. I am sorry to say I chew about 3-4 pieces a day and it really helps me, ALOT especially my first week of induction. So, if sugarless gum doesnt stall your weight progress, i would suggest getting some.

Re: sugar alcohols
If you do decide to allow yourself sweetened drinks/gum/desserts dont forget to count the servings as we are allowed just 3 per day according to DANDR.Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Re: sugar alcohols
Yes @ the 3 servings a day. I would check that section in the book about what sweeteners are allowed. Are there any gums sweetened with Splenda? I can only chew it every now and then because I will want to chew several pieces in a row.
If you begin to stall or don't lose as well, that would be a good place to look.
So yeah, on my end, I found that having foods with artificial sweeteners actually made me want more so I just ate other things until I was able to get over it.

Re: sugar alcohols
Some people it doesn't bother but for some it is a staller. Just like diet drinks, things like that. You have to know what the ingredients are. I used to eat these pork rinds and I found out they have dextrose in them. I occasionally chew a piece of gum if I have really bad breath, but I do as a rule try to stay away.
