  • Calling all mums with babies!

Hi its me again. It gets more embarrassing every time I post here because I always fail but, i'm giving it yet another shot.

I just wanted to know how other mums with young babies cope as I have a 8 mth old and since I had him I dont have breakfast or sometimes a lunch either. I dont get time to get breakfast because i'm sorting the little one out and then dinner seems to come and go or i'll get a mcdonalds or something if i'm out (naughty I know). I do my eating mainly when my hubby gets home. We have dinner and maybe some snacks after.

So how do make sure you eat properly? I bring my little on in the kitchen in he high chair while i'm cooking his dinner or mine but he can climb out of the chair now so I have to be cafreful and he gets bored quick, so, any tips????

    Thanks in advance!

    hiya

im in Glasgow, and i have a 7 month old girl.

I manage to get brekkie as my daughter has a nap around 10ish, so i tend to push my lunch back till about 2.

Have you bought him a highchair toy?

You can buy them in ASda for £5 and it keeps my daughter amused and she can get bored easily as well.

    hope this helps

Re: Calling all mums with babies!

Kirsty ...... I'm a mom of seven so I have run the race of life knowing what it's like to juggle life and babies, toddlers, teens ect ..... my yongest now just turned three but I also take care of an infant who is 9 months old.

Planning is everything!!! When my three oldest were babies 3, 18 mos and new born my life was consumed with babies ..... I never had much time to eat drink or even think about any form of exercise. Heck going to the bathroom alone was a feat in itself so I totally know and understand where you are at right now ....... As far as cooking and food goes let me share with you how I coped during that time, and also I am still using these tools today.

You have to find time to do some bulk cooking. If it's at night after the baby has gone to bed or on a weekend when Hubby can help for a few hours ...... it takes some planing but really not more then a few hours and when you get your menus and techniques down it will take even less planning and time .......Here's what I do ....... plan your meat and veggies for the week ......A sample of the meats for me would boneless chicken,Hamburgers, taco salad, tunafish, quiche, porkchops, bacon, basically whatever you eat the majority of the time and then cook it all ..... Line baking trays with foil so clean up is a snap and then put the chicken and porkchops in at the same time and set a timer ...... while those are cooking on the stove top prepare hamburgers, ground beef and bacon. Cook enough for the entire week ....... Buy a slew of quart and gallon size ziplocks and as the food cools store in those and put them in the fridge. At this point you would have in about 2 hours time 10-12 chicken breast, hamburgers, several pounds of ground beef, a few pounds of bacon and porkchops all done and stored. Next round is to prepare a few quiches ..... eggs broccoli tomatos cheese meat whatever you like, make two or three pie pans depending on what your family will eat and get them all in the oven. While thats cooking cut up veggies and store in steamer bags ( these are easily grabbed and microwave steamed just a few minutes before you need them) Also make egg and or tuna salad for easy lunches slice celery and store in a bag ..... basically getting everything you need to eat for that week ready to grab fully cooked and now only needing a few minutes to zap in the micorwave to heat and eat ..... you will have quiche at your fingertips for breakfast ...... hamburgers with cheese and bacon, taco salad, ground beef to throw on lettuce for a salad as well as egg and tuna fish ...... for dinners you have hamburgers maybe meatloaf, porkchops and chicken all cooked just steam your veggies and your good to go ...... If hubby isn't helpful and just can't give you four hours once a week to bulk cook Hire a mothers helper for a few bucks and hour a young child not old enough to babysit alone but certainly old enough to keeep your child happy while your in the next room cooking .....

Hopefully I've shared enough for this to make sense and for you to customize it to fit your needs ....... it really takes all the pressure off even for cooking dinner because everything that takes the majority of time is done ..... I hope this might help a little! Just remember taking care of yourself while your babies are little is what will allow you to have time with them when you are older ....... precooking also gives you those moments with them you don't want to miss because your not in the kitchen all the time your with them!

      God Bless

Re: Calling all mums with babies!

Um, how can my advice have anything to say compared with a mother to SEVEN! LOL! :0)

With an 8 mo old, a pot and spoon should suffice for a long time! LOL! I would also maybe bring out a radio...Wal-Mart has an under the counter kind for $30, and it's the best money I've spent in a while! Pop a kids cd in and dance and sing....good exercise too!

I agree that planning is everything. Since my son was 2 months )he's 18months now) , we moved 6 times in 4 months, waiting on our house to be built, fight with MIL, everything, and
eating out was normal....SO BADLY NORMAL! It's only been seven days, and I refuse to eat out any more, except as a treat. Remember, back just in your childhood where McDonald's was a treat? We get into that rut that we feel that it's only .99, faster, easier, need it now. You'll make it home without starving, which is what I tell myself, and now my kids! :0) Anyway, I've always heard how it's a lifestyle change, and it hit me like a ton of bricks last week. I'm putting junk in my body and expecting to function properly, let alone excellent! I'm spending money on eating out because it's easy, yet it's just as easy for me to make eggs in the morning. I tell ya, I've been shocked at my whole life since I've made those changes, and it's only day 8. We're all reaping the benefits (my husband and my 4yr old too).

GOD IS GOOD! :0) Every time you come back and try, is just another way to motivate you when you want to stop. When you fall off the trail, just get back up and back on....that's all you can do! You're doing great!

Re: Calling all mums with babies!

Hi - I am new here, but I thought that I would chime in on this one. I have a 7 month old daughter who likes to be held ALL THE TIME. It can make getting things done really difficult. I started wearing her in a ring sling while trying to do things for myself around the house. You can find some great info about it here TheBabyWearer.com. It has totally changed my life and my experience of being a mom!
