  • Frustrated with second week

Hi - I am half way through my second week on Atkins and am starting to get really frustrated. During my first week, I lost at least .5lbs a day for a total of 4.5lbs. But I have stayed exactly the same since day one of my second week! I am following everything perfectly, counting and measuring. I did add in weight training on Monday and did a MommyBootcamp workout yesterday, but would I actually build enough muscle in that little time to off set any fat loss? Help, if I don't see that number move soon - I'm headed back to counting calories and fat grams

    tiara,
It happens to so many of us that after a quick drop the body pauses and hangs on to the weight. But there is good news. As long as you stick to the plan it will start to drop again. Happened to me. I even gained a pound or two there. But they are all gone now.

However, just to be sure you are doing everything right you can post a menu in the post menu forum and someone will comment on it.

Congratulations on staring the workout. It will help you a lot. And even if you did not build muscles quite yet, you may have retained some water. That is normal after a big workout too.

i wouldn't get too frustrated just yet, you're just in the middle of week two. if you were 2 months along and was still in the same place then you might have cause to be frustrated. i agree with liv, you should definately post a couple days menu on the post menu forum. maybe there is something you are eating that you think is legal, but isn't or maybe you've gone alittle overboard and the number of servings allowed for a certain food.

also don't know how often you are getting on your scales, but i would suggest you only weigh once a week or go strictly by measurements or find something you can't wear and see how long before you can fit into that particular piece of clothing. the scales will flucuate daily and if you can't handle the daily flucuation and get frustrated, it might be better to stay off of them.

      good luck

Tiara...if I have learnt one thing over the past 9 months of doing Atkins is that you cannot expect your body to lose a certain amount each day/week. It just doesn't happen that way. Sometimes I have a great month, other times I lose nothing.

I do know, however, after losing over 40 pounds and 4 dress sizes is that the program does work if you give it the time. And, on the whole, it is pretty easy to follow and be happy with. Counting calories and fat grams might work for some but I wouldn't last a week. I like to eat and not feel hungry all the time!

Stick it out, trust me, the results are worth it.

          Re: Frustrated with second week

There's a stickie called "Weight Loss Isn't Linear" and I think you should read it.

It's not wise to expect to lose a pound every single day. That might not happen for a number of reasons, including, you might not be emptying your bowels as efficiently as before or you might be retaining water.

So don't get discouraged. Also did you measure yourself when you started? Dr. Atkins wrote that the loss of inches was a better indicator of losing fat than the scale, because losing inches represented fat leaving your body.

              Re: Frustrated with second week

Thanks for your words of wisdom. It is just frustrating to be trying to do Atkins as perfectly as possible and doing some major intense kick butt boot camp style workouts and still not see even a slight dip in the scale.

I did take my measurements, but not until the end of the first week.

I think I will post a sample menu to get some feedback on that. Maybe there is a problem that I am not seeing.

BTW - I currently weigh 132. My goal weight is 120. I was in the best shape of my life with rock solid muscles about 6 years ago and weighed 118. So I am trying to get back to around that.

                Re: Frustrated with second week

Tiara, to have lost 4.5 pounds already when you have about 17 in total to lose is terrific!!!

I would suggest that you are doing nothing wrong at all but that your body is getting used to the new regime this week

So after your 14 days, make a note of your total loss so far and check with the chart in DANDR to see what sort of resistance to weight loss you have and then move on to OWL.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
