  • undue stress to my life... i think

this is my second time around and i am not finishing day 12 of induction(plan on staying until june 25) i dont see anything different. should i. although this is my second time, i dont recall worrying this much while being in this early stage. I constantly pass by the mirror in hopes that i will see a flat stomach or at least a slimmer stomach. i am scared to weigh myself in case of my not achieving the goal i want. i can say during my first time,i didnt even come close to working this hard and lost 13 pounds in the induction stage. i planned on weighing in for the second time monday morning. can anyone relate or attempt to put my mind at ease. to

Stick to the plan as Dr. A wrote & it will work!!

Sirine is right~~~what are your stats. How much weight do you need to lose~~~what are you eating~~~are you drinking enough H20~~~are you exercising? . As far as worrying about what the scale is going to show you ask yourself how you are feeling. Do you have more energy~~~has your cravings decreased~~~are your clothes fitting better. There are many ways to measure the success of this way of eating other than the scale.

      Good luck in your journey!

It is hard to know exactly what to answer to your post. There are so many factors that could affect your loss or non-loss. You say you don't see any change but have not weighed yourself.n Sometimes the change is first noticed in pounds sometimes in inches. If you are feeling terribly discouraged, weigh yourself and see if you have lost anything.

Also the suggestion to post menues is excellent. often people say they are not losing while diligently sticking to plan and they post a menu with a lot of things they thought were legal that are not. When I seem stuck, I go back to the very basics, drop the cheese, cream etc., and stick with only meats and vegetables. It is amazing the difference this can have. Not as much fun but it works.

How much you have to lose in total, can also affect how quickly you lose it. if you are only trying to lose 5-20 pounds, it may come off very slowly. How do you feel?

Right now I am losing very very slowly, but due to excercise, I am losing inches quickly. In a month I have gone down two clothing sizes. Other times, I have lost pounds quicker but have stayed in the same clothing size. Most important do not give up. Look at some of the pictures. Elizellen and Mitzi among others come to mind quickly. It does work. It did for them and will for you too!

nu-mee, I would guess from your menu at a glance that you might be taking in too much salt and retaining water. Pork rinds, ham, bacon all can be really high in salt. Did your taco salad contain any type of chips? That could also be a culprit. Also ae you checking your seasonings carefully? a lot of the seasoning blends contain sugar which can hurt you.

I would also try to drink more plain water. i am not sure why the flavored water (Sugarless?) is not ok in place of regular, but while it is allowed, I understand you should not use it to replace the plain stuff.

You ae getting a lot of exercise, so you may be building muscle which weighs more then fat. But it also burns more calories to maintain muscle. Hang it there. it will drop off soon I am sure!

if you look at being on Atkins, as introducing stress to your life, then you need to re-evaluate the diet. Perhaps you think it is more constrictive than it really is? There are TONS of ways to combine ingredients to get really delicious meals. Meals that I actually prefer to one that aren't atkins friendly. Also..if you look at it that way, you will fail.

just a tip: sometimes I am able to rid of stress through exercise

your menu shows no veggies until your dinner, and all you had as far as veggies go was green beans. what did you have in your taco salad? any veggies? you really need to try to spread your veggies throughout the day. that's where most of your carbs should come from.

also does your vanilla have sugar in it? that might be a problem if it does.

                just some thoughts,

Re: undue stress to my life... i think

I surely understand how you feel. I was tending to weigh myself everyday so far. I was thrilled when I saw the scale down 2 pounds every morning! This is only my 7th day on and I've already lost 12 pounds....2 inches off my waist and 1 /12 off my thighs. It's very tempting to get on those scales EVERY morning, but I now have to stop myself....I promised myself I wouldn't weigh until day 15, like I'm suppose too! Thereafter, I am going to weigh myself bi-weekly, because I don't want to get discouraged if I don't see that 2 pound loss every morning. There will be stalls, I know, but we can pass that and if we really stick to the Atkins plan, we WILL achieve our goals!

i do eat more veggies than noted in my menu. my salad was taco meat, tsp sour cream, cheese, and 2 cups of lettuce. as far as salt everything i checked had sodium in it. are there any inexpensive items that i can buy with no salt? also, can i eat more that the 3 a day veggie requirement and stay below my 20 grams?

wow what a work out! I believe you are turning fat to muscle! you may want to look over the book a bit if you didn't mesure your arms, waist, and so on.... like it suggested. and 12 to 15 carbs should be from what the book called salad veggie's..and like the other's suggested, your sodium intake may be high. are you in ketosis? CVS and Walmart have the sticks...

I have been excercising for 8 day's now..2 hours a day everyday..and after just this short time, I'm more alert..little nagging pains are gone..
up before the alarm and so on..you must feel the benifits of your program already too?

please hand in there! your sharing your results, your menu and asking your questions was a great first step! You are not alone!!

As we go by the rules in DANDR 2002 rather than the new larger allowance suggested by the Atkins company on their website and in the later editions of DANDR published after Dr Atkins handed them over to the Atkins company, I would suggest sticking to the 3 cups for the first fortnight and then moving to OWL and starting to add 5 net carbs of more vegetables on the allowed list.

You could increase the carbs from those 3 cups by replacing the lettuce which is basically chewy water with more carb-y ones from the 'salad list'.

Each year we have a couple of challenges on the board where people on induction try to get 12 or more carbs from vegetables with some success. Maybe reading the threads on this in the 'Semi-annual challenges' forum will give you some ideas on how to do this?
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

I have often found salt to be a culprit inwater retention/no weight drop. Cutting out the cheese will help ven if you only do it short term, also the pork rinds are veryhigh in salt. Ham and bacon usually have high salt content too. There is some natural sodium in most foods, but it is the added sodium from food processing, you want to cut out. I have found when my weight stabilizes for a few days, just eating simple meat and vegetables for a couple of days usually causes a drop.
