    Hi Everyone:

I posted a few months ago that I was starting this WOE, but I didn't. Too many excuses to list, but none of them valid. Anyways, last weekend, i got so fed up that I began induction on Monday. I've read the book, read this site, and also have a couple other Atkins books, so I'm fairly comfortable with the process. I've tried this diet twice before, but quit within about a month, but this time, I feel good, and am going to stick with it. Anyways, I have a couple of newbie questions..

1.) I've lost 9.5 pounds since Monday (woohoo), is this mostly water weight?

2.) Excercise is my worst enemy. Here's my philosphy, which is totally distorted. If I don't go in the morning to workout at the gym, then I just consider the day wasted. Nice, huh? How do you guys get the motivation to get up and go! Any excercise tips you can give me?

3.) I think I just got over the "induction flu". Is that when you're really tired and kind of zombie like?

4.) I am ~36 pounds from my goal. If all goes well for the next week after induction, should I jump into the first rung of OWL?

Well, thats all for now. Thanks for all the advice in advance.

    Re: Just Checking In

way to go with your weight loss. 9.5 is a great start, some of that is probably water. how much i couldn't tell you, but a loss is a loss water or not. so congrats!!

as far as exercise goes, it's hard for me to get motivated as well sometimes. because i don't belong to a gym yet. i try to take advantage of my surroundings as much as possible, and do something fun but that can also be a workout too. like one day hubby and i went to a batting cage and batted some balls around for a while. just because you don't work out in the mornings doesn't mean you can't get some kind of exercise in at another time. maybe go for a walk at work on your lunch hour. take the stairs when you can instead of using and elevator or esculator. stop by a park on your way home from work and shoot some hoops. just try to do something. i know it's hard but you just gotta get moving even if you can't get to the gym. you could always go to the gym in the evening too, work outs don't "have" to be in the mornings.

this is my first week back on induction, i also started on monday
and what you described sounds like the induction flu to me. i felt the same way the first few days.

jumping to OWL is really a personal choice i guess. some people stay on extened induction for a while and others move directly to OWL. for some it may depend on how much they have to lose. for me, i have 47 lbs to lose, so i'm gonna stay induction for 3 weeks before i move on. then i'm gonna take my time and slowly go up the rungs. i've also done atkins where i stayed on ex. induction for a very long time, and all that did was cause me to start sneaking in carbs that i picked and chose off the OWL rungs(not necessarily in any particular order)all that did was make me get so out of control that i would overdo it.

just my two cents worth. hope it helps and good luck to you on your journey.

      Re: Just Checking In

      Hi Greg

Welcome to our ADBB family and well done for sticking to the plan this time after a few false starts in the past.

As to your questions, here is my take on them:

      1) I think i read somewhere that 'some' of the weight you lose first thing when you start Atkins is waterweight, but not all of it. And anyway - it is better gone from your body, so congratulations on your loss

      2) When I first started induction the best I could do for exercise was to make myself walk down the road and back, so I tried to make sure I did that whenever I had time, and gradually built up from there. Before too long I started to miss the walks if life got in the way and stopped me. Now I even go to the gym 3 evenings a week, so though I would not say I actively 'enjoy' exercising I do like the way it makes me feel after doing it

It takes time for your body to agree with your mind that you 'need' to exercise, so just keep trying to get started and I am sure that soon you will feel like getting going. It takes a few weeks to make a habit of anything so try to plan some time in the day and 'just do it'!!

      3) The feeling you describe IS what many people here call 'induction flu' and I am glad you are over it. Some people get a burst of energy after the first week or so and I hope you are one of them

      4) Your plan of moving to OWL after your 14 days of induction sounds good to me!! This will allow you the time to find your CCLL and discover any foods that affect you and might need avoiding in the future too.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

        Re: Just Checking In

Thanks Monie and Eli for the words and welcomes. I'm definitely glad that that induction flu business is over, people at work started to think i was on drugs. I'm feeling really good today, not craving any carbs (eventhough it's only been ~week, this must be a good sign). I'm gonna type up and excercise plan to follow b/c I'm definitely a list type of person, and if I don't get my list done by the end of the day, i feel crappy. Onward and upward

              Re: Just Checking In

              Hi Elsie!

I think I'll just keep checking in on this thread. Excercise plan is all set, i'm gonna hit the gym tomorrow (1 complete week on Atkins as of tomorrow). I'm gonna do 40 minutes of cardio m-f at the gym..bike, elliptical, walking/running. I was thinking of adding an excercise video at home in the evening (they have a bunch of them on demand @ comcast). On and off I've been doing push ups, crunches and lunges before bed for a couple of years, i'm gonna make that law. I think after a week of going to the gym consistently, i'll start adding in the weight training. I'm trying to ease into this WOE, not go crazy and do everything at once and get burnt out...that has been my problem the times before. Oh and I'm down 11.5 pounds a/o this morning (I'm not weighing myself again until a week from tomorrow though).

I'm going to a concert coming up on Saturday, and I know that I'm going to be drinking, so instead of beer (my favorite on a hot day), I'm gonna opt for Bacardi and Diet. I know it isn't the BEST solution, but it's better then filling up on a 12 pack of Coors light, wouldn't you say?

I'm gonna check out some of those excercise challenges today as well, maybe join in on some of that action. Ciao.

                Re: Just Checking In

                Hey Boston,

                AWESOME job on the exercising!
Well...I won't lecture you on going off the plan and adding liquor during induction. Too bad it won't be a clean induction. You know that when we drink our bodies stop burning fat and switch to burning the liquor, right? At least you are trying to plan ahead. Maybe you can lessen the damage by having water or a club soda inbetween each drink? Got a food plan? Bring some pepperoni 'chips' and cheese crisps?

Just out of curiousity maybe you should weigh yourself before you go and after...

Challenges are great motivaters...check them out!
