  • Really confused. Not allowed Diet Coke, but allowed Diet soda which is the same?!?

People seem to be against drinkin diet coke on the Induction. But i have read some people suggest diet soda. So i looked at the ingredients of ALL the soda's on the shelf at the store and they all have the same bad ingredients. The biggest one being aspartame. So i thought to myself "i know, i will get some flavoured water". I got home with 6 litres of Perfectly Clear still flavoured water and it ALSO had aspartame in it. So i left it.

I don't really like Tea or Decaff coffee or anything like that so there is nothing to add splenda to. So my question is... What sorts of cold drinks are we allowed? Can anyone throw some brand names at me so i know exactly what to buy? I look around all the big stores here and they either have sugar loaded soft drinks, or aspartame pumped "diet" soft drinks.

    Water is getting tedious.

The main thing to remember is that nothing should replace plain water as your drink of choice. No matter what "allowed" drinks you use, always be sure to get your full quota of plain water as well.

I also like seltzer water, particularly the fruit flavored ones. There is no sweetner of any kind in the ones I buy and it is kind of a tart, taste with just a little flavoring. it is probably an aquired taste, but there are several brands so a lot of people must like them.

I know there are some diet beverages flavored with splenda but they are hard to find. You can also buy the unsweetened cool aid type beverages and sweeten with aplenda. But you are supposed to limit your use of sweetners of any sort including splenda on induction, so keep that in mind.

diet rite soda is made with splenda, they have a regular soda, and several fruit flavored sodas also. some places here sell 6 pks that are only 8 ozs, and i have decided to allow myeslf one 8 oz can just as a treat once in a while.

A product called "4C" makes a powdered drink mix using splenda. I like the Cranberry Pomegrante flavor.

Another brand of soda that uses splenda is "Waist Watcher's" and they have a cola, ginger ale, and citrus flavor.

You don't like traditional tea, but maybe you would like the peppermint tea. You can either buy the tea bags (be sure to get the type that only has dried peppermint leaves as an ingredient), or you could take a glass of ice water and crush a few sprigs of peppermint into the water. It's very refreshing and it makes your breath smell great.

One other product that I like is called "True" Lemon. They also have lime and orange flavors. The orange is my favorite. It is sold in boxes of 40 packets and does not contain any artifical sweetner. It does use lactose (which is a milk derivative), so I limit servings of this to one or two a day, and although the nutrition facts state less than 1 carb per packet, I count it as 1 carb. The good news on this product is that one packet provides 25% of your daily Vitamin C requirement.

The two issues are caffeine and aspartame. Dr. Atkins wrote that caffeine can affect blood sugar levels in a bad way, so he wanted us to avoid it. As for aspartame, Dr. Atkins found that it stalled or slowed weight loss in some of his dieters.

If you can find a caffeine-free, non-aspartame sweetened diet soda, you may have it. However, each serving counts toward your daily sweetener allowance of 3 servings daily and the soda doesn't count toward the minimum daily water intake of 64 fluid ounces.

I am drinking Red Bush tea with 1 splenda sweetner. The Red Bush tea is just 100% Red Bush so it should be ok. It is actually quite tasty and is packed with antioxidants

How many of these do you think i would be allowed each day?
            2 or 3 mugs acceptable?

I just drink anything sugar free, i.e Diet Coke, Redbull, Sprite etc.

Aspartame doesn't stall everyone so it's worth trying it as the sweetness of a can of cold diet coke helps me through the day sometimes and prevents me from cheating!

Shasta also has soda made with Splenda. I like their grapefruit flavored diet soda. I wish they made a ginger ale.

Tesco (UK) has a Diet 'Fiery Ginger Ale' sweetened with Splenda only. I get it for my husband mainly but now and again find a small glass very refreshing.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

This is kind of an old thread. Where did it come from?
