  • Substitute for steak sauce?

Just wondering if anyone has found anything to use in place of A-1? My hubby decided today he was gonna start this WOL along with me (YAY), but he ALWAYS has A-1 with his steak and other meats. Well, looking at the label, that is a big no-no! Anyone have any suggestions what he can use in place of this? Thanks in advance!

Thanks! By any chance do you have the measurements you used or just to taste?

I have made something similar to Kelly, but I do it all by taste.I sometimes add garlic and a good dose of black pepper, too.

Teriyaki, garlic and then add a pat of butter 1 min before its done always works for me. Also you can use any fresh herbs of your choice and some butter and garlic as well.

I too have used it similarly too only I take about 1/4 cup of the broth off of the meat, then I add 1 Tablespoon Worchestershire sauce, and then I add 2 Tbls. of low carb Ketsup. Yummy! If you like it a little more like Heinz try a little splenda... very little it goes a long way. Good Luck hope it helps.

I suggest seasoning the steak with Montreal steak seasoning.

                Re: Substitute for steak sauce?

By the way, if you do use the Heinz ketchup or sweeten up your homemade concoction with Splenda, etc. each serving of that will count as 1 of your 3 daily sweetener servings.

Remember we are limited to only 3 servings of any artifically sweetened food---no matter what kind of artificial sweetener or natural sugar substitute it happens to be.

                  Re: Substitute for steak sauce?

Oh and read the ingredients to any sauces you use, like teriyaki or Worchestershire. If the ingredients are not on the Induction Acceptable Foods list, the food is NOT Induction legal---no matter how many carbs it has per serving.

                  Editing to add....

Before anyone starts with the "I eat it all the time and it doesn't affect my weight loss" excuse. Unless, you have compared your weight loss eating it to your weight loss not eating it, you really can't say "it doesn't affect my weight loss." Look at Thinker's thread in the Main Forum about caffeine. For a long time he didn't think caffeine affected his weight loss, until it he removed it from his diet and saw what a big effect it did have.

Moreover, everyone reacts differently to food. When you get to OWL phase you'll find out how your body reacts to food. These first 14 days of Induction are way too important to the remainder of your ATkins to go experimenting now. (Re-read Chapters 11-13 if you need to brush up on how important these two weeks are.)

So for these 2 weeks, play it safe, follow the Rules and the Foods List strictly if you want the best results.
