  • Did well but then...

    Hi all, I lost 6 pounds in week one and then cheated big time on the weekend and gained back 3 pounds. Fine...so I am back @ it again yesterday (Monday) but I am not back in Ketosis yet...have I ruined everything? Will I ever get back to losing weight? HELP...

    remember it takes 2 days or more for your body's stored glycogen(stored glucose) to diminish.

      it's just one little bump in the road. if you get back on track, you should be fine. it can take up to 3 days to get all the bad carbs out of your system, but just try to drink as much water as you can to help flush them out. just stay strong and you'll be losing again in no time. remember to take one day at a time and you can do this. if i can, then anyone can.

        I started 10 days ago. I lost 27 lbs when I tried Atkins about 10 or 11 yrs back and found as "diets" go it felt easier to do than most. So as I have been getting older (44 yr old now) the weight comes on easier and is tougher to rid! AGH!
        However, that being said... On Fathers day I allowed myself to cheat a little, though on induction... I know it's pretty bad to do it. I'm pleased to say I am down 6 lbs after 10 days and I can live with that. You just keep going. We can do this! I am 14lbs from my first goal. I figured I'd break it down and make it less overwhelming to lose 20lb by end of July and then work on the next 20lb once I got past the first 20.

          Stick with the diet right now and see if you can get back into ketosis.

          However, the most important thing---the most crucial thing---to your success on this diet or any other is to figure out why you "cheated big time". You lost 6 pounds in 1 week. That's quite an accomplishment. So you have to figure out why you sabotaged yourself and set yourself up for failure.

          If you say "because I was with friends/family/etc. and they made me eat X.", that's not a valid or realistic excuse. See, YOU are in control of everything YOU put into your mouth. Unless, they tied you up, forced a tube down your throat and shoved food directly into your stomach, no one can 'make you' eat or drink anything.

          So sit down. Figure out why you sabotaged yourself. Otherwise, you'll end up like too many other people here who lose alittle weight, cheat, regain the weight, and start all over again: in other words, they keep doing alot but get absolutely nowhere.

            thanks everyone for the support.
            I cheated because i didn't plan properly...I was lazy and didn't pack my lunch so I had nothing but high carb vending machine food.
            According to the strips I am back in ketosis but I haven't lost any weight so total for 10 days is 3 pounds.
            I am going to consider myself to have re started induction on Monday so this is really only day 3 with no weight loss (as 3 pounds were last week)...

              Be sure you have an emergency plan if you find yourself in a situation like that again.

              You're on Day 10. So you have 4 more days left of your 2 week Induction. Wait until Day 15 before making any decisions to "start over again".

              Dr. Atkins said that the weight we lose in the first few days is water weight. But by day 4-5, we are losing fat. So the chances are the 3 pounds you "gained" is water weight.
