  • 11 days in and excited

Hi everyone. I started this woe 11 days ago and so far I am really excited! For one I have lost 9 lbs.
For another, I am finding a lot more recipes to try later so I know I won't get bored on this eating plan. I tried it before and got bored after losing 35 lbs. Now it seems there is so much more to eat than I found 6 years ago.

One thing I have had the last couple days is the Slim Fast low carb shakes blended with ice. It stretches them out and makes it a treat.

Well, I just thought I would say hi. Good luck to all of you on this woe journey.
    Take Care,
    Evie

    Hi Evie!
Congrats on your loss! I'm only 6 days in (well this is day 7 for me) and I'm pretty happy with my decisions. I've done similar things to Atkins as well, but never the real thing. And after actually reading the book, I realized I did it completely wrong before and had I done it right I may not have given up in the past. You're right there is definitely a lot of flexibility. Those shakes sound yummy!

Glad to hear about your success.

Not to be a downer or whatever....be CAREFUL with those shakes! I've never had them but I've heard they are full of sugar (not splenda). Also the shakes are NOT Induction friendly. Just to give you a heads up!

      Keep up the good work!

You should avoid the shakes. There are so many better treats that are legal. Those are packed with sugar alcohols and other crap you shouldn't have! Congrats so far!

So at 1 g sugar and 4 g's carbs it is too much? I am under the 20 carbs for the day still. I realize it may not be listed in the book, but maybe they weren't available then. What do you all think?

I am really surprised. They have lots of vitamins and low sugar and carbs.

Re: 11 days in and excited

Hello Evie, this is day #??(might be around 80 I believe). I also would recommend that you lay off them shakes. I make me a shake using a box of sugar-free jello, 2 cups crushed ice, 2 packets of splenda, 2 tblspn of heavy cream(dont ask I like it) and a cup of water then pulverize it in me blender. Makes me a big cup, I think it's 32 ounces, I sip on as a snack between meals and it fills me up pretty good. Dont know the total carbs but I would say it's minimal. It is nice to see that you have a wonderful positive attitude. Stay focused and motivated and you'll do fine. Be true to yourself and success you will find. I havent gotten bored yet with me meals, maybe because this is me first time doing Atkin's, but if I do get bored in the slightest all I have to do is look back at all the pounds and inches lost thus far, that should be motivation enough. Dont give up this time. You need support, I'm here to help, WE all are here to help and guide you. Keep the faith. God Bless, Joe

Look at the ingredients... whats in there? Malitol? Sugar alcohols? Whey protien?

                    OK!

First I found no whey protien. I found the top include calsium and potassium of which I tend to run low on. Yes that malt stuff is 10th in the list. Items are listed by amount.
                    This has calcium 40% daily req. A 35 %, C 100 %, E 100%, D 35% and many others I am not listing the whole thing.

This seems good to me. I know it isn't perfect but you should see what I used to eat okay? Maybe it isn't the best. But I'm getting the vitamis high antioxidants at that, needed potassium, a snack that is low in carbs and sugar. Sugar 1 g and sugar alcohol 0 g protien 20 g.

Why is this is so bad? Cream cheese isn't better. Give me some of your snack ideas please. I hate celery btw. Thanks for caring.

Joe, trust me I want the help. I do! Just please after looking at what I said is in it, someone tell me why it would be harmful? I'm losing good. What are you all eating in between meals or if you need a snack. Joe I appreciate the shake recipe you gave. I think it was you.

Re: 11 days in and excited

The reason why we are warning you against the shakes is because they are not Induction friendly. On this forum we base our WOL on the 2002 Edition of Atkins New Diet Revolution.

We are just trying to help you. It is best for you to stay away from things that are not Atkins friendly/Induction friendly in order for you body to really get over any food addictions you have/had and to really get your body in Ketosis and ready for OWL.

What kind of sugar is in the shake? What kind of milk? Is there Corn Syrup? Or Starch Solids?. The question was what ingredients are in the shake. Vitamins are great don't get me wrong, but if you're drinking Orange Juice...you're getting Vitamin C right? Along with ALL that sugar!! I only saw that you wrote what Vitamins/Nutrients were in the shake? Or did I miss it (if I'm did, sorry)?

The only "allowed" sugar alcohol on Induction is Splenda and even then it's only 2-3 packets. Either way it isn't suggested.
For optimal results you really want to stick close to what is allowed and what isn't, that's all.

Ideas for snacks: pickles, green peppers with a little ranch dressing, pepperoni slices, a peice of cheese, harboiled eggs, etc. Whenever I have a sugar craving I eat pickles. I've also been told by a lot of veterans that if you are haveing a craving for something try eating something high in fat. Here's a great website with all sorts of recipes, the ones with a * are Induction friendly: Linda's Low Carb Menus & Recipes - Home

I hope that helps! Just remember we're trying to help you in the knowledge that we have obtained in our personal experiences.
