  • 1st week of induction

I just completed my first full week of induction as of this morning and I AM DOWN 9.8 POUNDS!!! WOO HOO!!! I am so excited! The deal I made with my hubby was to lose 20 lb by 9/28 and he'd wear a suit captains night of our cruise.. He then upped it to if I lost 30 he'd wear a tux... from the time we made that wager I have now lost 11 lbs.. I suspect he will be wearing that tux! The deal was my idea. We've committed this year to getting healthy together.. of course he had had great results and a faster rate. He is doing atkins but he really doesn't even realize it. And he has the advantage of the leaner muscle so he can get away with cheating.. scumbag

      Re: 1st week of induction

      Congrats!

But let me give you a bit of advice.....don't weigh again until Day 14. If you read the sticky called "Weight loss isn't Linear", you'll see that you might not lose daily or weekly. You're off to such a good start, I don't want to see you discouraged if that scale doesn't move as quickly as you think it should. So step away from the scale for now and just remember :

      1. Like with any weight loss diet, the initial pounds you lose on Atkins is water weight.

      2. After the first few days, you will start losing fat weight, according to Dr. Atkins.

      3. Some of us have experienced a mini-stall between weeks 3-6 of being on Atkins. In one of the Atkins videos, Dr. Atkins said this was due to your body adjusting to its new condition and it was adjusting itself.

      4. Staying on Induction longer than the 14 days doesn't guarantee faster or consistent weight loss. In fact, people who have an average to low metabolic resistance to weight loss seem to do better if they move to On-Going Weight Loss phase after their 14 day Induction. Based on the results you posted, you have an average to low metabolic resistance.

      5. Dr. Atkins said that the loss of inches was a more accurate measure of fat loss than the loss of pounds. He said that the loss of inches represented the fat leaving our bodies.

      6. The scale isn't a great measure of fat loss because if you lose 1 pound of fat but retain 1 pound of water and gain 1 pound of muscle, that scale will show a 1 pound weight "gain". So keep that in mind, if you are "gaining" pounds or not "losing" pounds according to the scale, but you are losing inches off your body, you are losing weight---the scale isn't just showing that you are.

        Re: 1st week of induction

Thank you for the great advice! I will do my best to stay off that scale.. I also use the measuring tape and will try to stay away from it as well. I have been one of those people to experience a stall on week 3. I get horribly discouraged and give up. I am encouraged this time because before I would lose around 7 lb in the 14 day induction period and then get stuck. I have incorporated exercise this time so I think that is why I am doing so well this go round.. Thanks again!

                  Hi Trisan!

I've just finished up week 1 as well. I'm glad to hear of your success! You're cruise is going to be so much fun, what an incentive, I'm jealous!
I just finished reading Not2Late's post about the scale, I can't agree more. A few months ago my trainer at the gym put me on this ridiculous diet and strenuous exercise....I dont' know if it was muscle weight or the hight carbs that had my body pack on some pounds but watching the scale move up instead of down really discouraged me and I ended up becoming a couch potato as a result of my disappointment. I haven't weighed myself since day 1 until today because the battery on my scale died, but I just replaced it so I'm gonna have my daughter hide it and tell her she can't give it to me until it's Wednesday again. Hehe...
Anyhoo, just thought I'd introduce myself and congratulate your success!

Great idea, having your daughter hide the scale! It will be hard for me to go the entire next 7 days without jumping on but I'm certainly going to try not doing it EVERY day.
