  • Day 5 - Need some advice

I had some old ketone strips from a while back, and day 1-3 I tested, all negative. Looked at the expiration date (duh, they're expired) so bought new ones. Yesterday, tested with the new strips, a strong moderate reading even with drinking 80oz of water (Horray!)

So... My issue is this. I don't have an abundance to lose (17 lbs) however, I haven't lost anything yet when I stepped on the scale this morning. I'm not giving up, don't get me wrong! Just frusterated. I grew up an extremely chubby kid (178lbs in the 7th grade) and I've worked really hard to lose weight and be healthy since I was a child; however the past 2 years with slacking workouts and less-tha-par nutrition, I've gained about 15lbs. It worries me that if I don't change something, I'm going to severely regret it later in life.

I'm curious if there are any other carb-addicts out there who might not have had substantial weight loss goals, but had success w/ weight loss while on induction. I'm very happy with my energy levels, I have a new appreciation for veggies as snacks instead of chips and pretzles (used to consider them my "weakness"). So even if there were no pounds lost, I would still feel that this was worthwhile.

your body may still be adjusting to your new eating lifestyle and has just not released all the water weight yet. generally the first weight that comes off is going to be water. i would suggest trying to stay off the scales until you finish your full 2 weeks of induction. since you have such a small amount to lose, the pounds will probably come off slower. once you finish your 2 weeks you should move to OWL and start climbing the rungs.
the weight will come off when your body is ready, as long as you stick to the plan and stay strong and determined. also make sure you keep your water in take up.

    i wish you much success,

I agree with Monie. Stay off the scale. And move up the rungs. Take your measurements. Your weight lose will be slower as you really have so little to lose but the bright side is each pound will make a difference. I have to lose 30 before people can even tell. Hang in there. I think there is a thread in the main forum about someone losing slowly.

Well, if you only have 17lbs to lose you're going to lose it relatively slowly. According to the book, if I remember correctly, you only lose about 10% of the weight you need to lose. Hang in there, as others have said. Even if you're not losing on the scale you'll see how your body transforms itself. Good Luck

Hello I wouldn't weigh myself until Day 14, the end of Induction. During the first week of induction you could even see weight gain and it would be normal. That's why it's advised to weigh yourself before you begin Atkins and then at the end of the 14 day induction period. See where you're at then and update us with any progress. I have a feeling the scale will be nice to you!

So.... It's that TOM. Started yesterday and weight has remained steady - which would frusterate some, however I usually gain roughly 6-7lbs of water retention during the first 2 days of my cycle, so remaining steady is making me VERY happy

I will say... I'm finding it hard to eat! I have almost no appetite until around bedtime (My previous usual snack time, as much as I hate to admit it); however a few situps, push ups and chugging some more water have helped alleviate that!

              Bring on week 2!

Thanks so much for the support!!!
