  • fatboy wanna be skinnyboy, but needs help

Im sure yall have had post like this before, but i couldnt find any. I HATE leafy veggies. i mean HATE THEM. they make me sick. I dont THINK i hate them. I really do.

I am also limited in the second group of veggies, but still there are some in that group that i DO like. Should i eat more of the second group and not worry about the first. or got other suggestions?

    "Salad" list
    alfalfa sprouts -- not leafy
    daikon --- not leafy
    mushrooms --- not leafy
    arugula
    endive
    parsley
    bok choy
    escarole
    peppers --- not leafy
    celery --- not leafy
    fennel --- not leafy
    radicchio
    chicory
    jicama --- not leafy
    radishes --- not leafy
    chives
    lettuce
    romaine lettuce
    cucumber --- not leafy
    mache
    sorrel

So from the "salad list" there are 9 veggies that are not the leafy ones you hate with a passion. From those 9 non-leafy veggies, I see lots of eating potential

    Alfafa: salads, stir fries, omelets
Daikon: chopped in salads, stir fries, boiled/steamed and mashed like potatoes, sliced into match-sticks and mixed with mayo for a "slaw"
Mushrooms: raw in salads; or cooked in omelets, stirfries. Also marinated and served warm or cold.
Peppers: raw in salads, cooked in stirfries or omelets, cooked as part of a vegetable medley, stuffed with cheese or meat and baked or stewed.
Celery: raw in salads, raw as a "slaw", cooked in stirfries, cooked or braised.
Fennel: raw in salads. cooked---sauteed or baked with heavy cream(!)
    Jicama: raw or cooked
Radishes: raw in salads, raw as a "slaw"; cooked as a potato-like substitute.
Cucumber: raw in salads or cooked (yeah, it's a classic French accompaniement to fish.)

As for the leafy veggies, if you are willing to give them a try, try them lightly sauteed. Sauteeing them makes them more digestible and changes their taste to being somewhat sweeter. By the way, I think bok choy tastes best when it is cooked---sauteed with a little bacon and garlic.

Parlsey and chives are herbs but they make nice "pestos" to serve along side chicken, fish or seafood.

You know, I never thought of myself as a 'veggie person' before this WOE (unless you count french fries!), but I think once you clean the poison carbs out of your system, your taste buds change. I know that sounds crazy, but give it a shot! Induction is only two weeks, then OWL rung one is 5 more veggie carbs and you could just add more of what you like. After that, its nuts, berries, grains, etc....
You owe it to yourself and your health to give this a shot!
Try to get 80-100 ounces a day!

Whether you think you can, or you think you can't, you're right.

I'm not a big fan of salads in general, but I have found ways to add my veggies to my meat dishes so that they aren't so obviously staring at me on the plate!

Cucumbers and peppers are my friends...

I was simply refering to the first group as leafy veggies. I didnt know what to call the group. so ok...its "salad list" i guess. here we go.

alfalfa sprouts -- not leafy..dont like it
daikon --- not leafy...dont like it
mushrooms --- not leafy...i CAN eat it, but im really not crazy about them. can eat it in stuff, like soup
peppers --- not leafy...i love peppers
celery --- not leafy...hate it, can eat them in soup
fennel --- not leafy...havnt tried, but cant find
jicama --- not leafy...same as above
          radishes --- not leafy...hate em
cucumber --- not leafy..only if they are made into pickles

And i have tried the leafy veggies. I flat dont like em. I guess in the salad list, its two to three cups of peppers, pickles and mushrooms

This probably sounds mean but uh... you're overweight because you've been eating stuff you 'like' for years.

If you ever want to be a thin, healthy person, you're going to need to mature your taste buds and enjoy healthy food.

You're trying to lose weight, not bake a birthday cake. Sometimes its good for you to eat things you dont 'like'.

oh wow...how profound...the depth of your wisdom knows no bounds. Do you not fricken think i want to eat that food.. I WANT TO. It makes me sick...literally.

Also thanks for reminding me that Im not trying to bake a cake. Ive been standing in the kitchen for hours trying to figure out how to turn arugula into a nice moist carrot cake.

You know...if you want to help, then help. if you want to be a smart a, then just keep it to yourself. thanks to all the people who have offerned encouragement and useful advice.

                    umm... Are you serious?

If you come here looking for advice and then go and insult people for trying to help you then find somewhere else to go. We're all here to help each other, and that means help each other have both physical and mental shifts in order to loose weight and be healthy.

You're not the only one who finds it hard to eat those things. The difference is that other people who are dedicated and motivated push themselves to new boundaries to achieve their goals, appreciate the support and advice of others and change their eating habits accordingly.

Feelings of physical illness upon eating salad veggies is a mental block, not a physical issue. You need to embrace a mindset change to accomplish your goals.

Thank you for being sarcastic, rude and obnoxious to me for trying to help you. You've made me feel great.

                      Hi Mike,
Life is too short to eat foods you don't like. You don't have to love all the food but you at least have to like it and not choke on it. You have identified a few of the veggies that you like. That's enough to get you started. There is nothing, absolutely nothing wrong with eating 2 cups of peppers every day. There is enough food on the induction list to find something you can eat. And if that means only eating a few things everyday for 2 weeks, and you're happy with that, then go for it.
My doctor told me to stop having intimate dinners for four. Unless there are three other people.

Everytime I am tempted to use food to satisfy my frustrated desires, build up my injured ego, or dull my senses, I will remember,
That even though I overeat in private, my excess poundage is there for all the world to see.

im sarcastic? and I guess your not? by "baking a cake", you literally thought i was trying to bake a cake. hello... wanna tell me how you responding to me like im an idiot was motivating.

If you start that sentance with..."uhhhh...this may sound mean, but" that is not encouragment, helpful or motivation...it was however, mean.

You can go with either of the vegetable lists. The second vegetable list just states that they are higher in carbs than the first list. Since you don't like eating them by themselves, you should just mix them with things you do like. Like mushrooms, onions, peppers in a breakfast omelet. Or make mushroom soup or broccoli cheese soup. Or maybe make some homemade salsa. I'm sure there are other good induction friendly recipes you can look up that are fast and simple and taste good.
