  • Question About 1/2 lb Weight Gain

Okay. I have been on induction one solid week as of yesterday. I have steady been losing weight, but was dismayed to see that I actually have gained 1/2 lb. since yesterday. I have ruled out some things that could have caused the weight gain (not to offer too much information but I have ruled out it being my TOTM or needing to go to the restroom). Is this normal for weight to fluctuate like this on induction, and to actually gain weight? I know its only a 1/2 lb., but I want to make sure that I am doing everything right. I did nothing yesterday "bad" and have been following the diet. I was just surprised that not only did I not lose any, but I actually gained. I have a very accurate scale. Thank you.

PS) I know that some people say that when dieting you should only weigh yourself once a week, but it REALLY helps me to weigh myself once a day. It helps me keep up the good work and stay focused. Just to be safe, even though we are allowed 24 ounces of diet soda a day, I have cut it out altogether, though I was drinking a small amount each day all along.

Tynan, t only helps to weigh yourself everyday if you can live with the fluctuations and they do not throw you off.

It is very normal for your weight to fluctuate from day to day. For some people the fluctuation may be 5lbs or more. So that 1/2 lb of yours is perfectly normal.

But if you like you can post your menu for someone to check through just in case.

Might have gained muscle from working out. Or perhaps you took in too much salt and are retaining water. Stay focused. God Bless, Joe

        Tynan,
If you're worried about that 1/2 pound weight gain then that scale is not helping you at all. Break that habit! There are so many factors that can affect your weight...even more than just 1/2 pound increments per day. What was your sodium intake last night--you might be retaining water. What did you eat...how much did that food physically weigh? Have you had a bowel movement? Do you know if your bowel movement was complete or if there might still be fecal matter in your colon? What did you do yesterday? Did you do anything physical that may require your muscles to require to hold extra water for repair?
Tynan, take it from an ex-scale addict, we can't let those minor weight gains get the best of us. If you have ketostix check to see if you're still in ketosis and make sure you take measurements as well! Try to weigh yourself 1 time a week and let that moment be the moment that motivates you instead.
Don't worry, you are doing something amazing and it will pay off soon!

Re: Question About 1/2 lb Weight Gain

Come to think of it, I did get WAY too much sea salt in my tuna salad that I had for lunch yesterday. My hand slipped when I was putting some in. Thanks for the help and advice everyone. I can see that this board is going to be an ESSENTIAL part of me losing this weight. I will start weighing myself only once (or twice, LOL) a week.

          Thanks again, and God Bless.

SEE!! there you go, that sea salt will hold that water to you!
Tynan, do you live with someone? Maybe you can have someone hide that scale and only give it to you on a designated weigh-day? That's what I've done and it's worked wonders.

Re: Question About 1/2 lb Weight Gain

                Jane's post was perfect!

I totally can't handle the fluctuations and I have set one weight day per week. Even with that I am totally weid. It has to be in the morning, naked, after I nurse the twins, after I go to the bathroom and before I eat anything....... My husband says I'm nutty. I'm allowed to be nutty ONCE a week. Sometims when I am feeling down i think "hey, let's get on the scale and see my progress!" But then if I gain i have a crappy day and my mindset is screwed. Sometimes only once a week is hard for me - but it's kind of like giving up soda (for me) It's best in the end.
