  • Questions...

    Hi there!

My hubby and I just started the diet a few days ago on the recommendation of my doctor (who says I'm pre-diabetic/Hypoglycemic).

I have a situation however - I usually eat 4-5 small meals a day because of my job. I own a dog walking/pet sitting business and thus am out in the heat during the summer for 6-7 hours a day with intense exercise. Not complaining about that of course!

The issue is - I can't eat a heavy lunch (makes me downright ill with the heat and exercise) and its difficult to bring snacks along that might spoil in the car (I'm thinking of getting a cooler for this too, but not sure how that would work). So any suggestions here on light snacks or whatever would be appreciated.

Also - I've been having these terrible headaches and being tired as ****. I drink 2 - 1 liter bottles of water while I"m out during the day (used to drink Gatorade too, but cut it out of my routine when I started since it has a lot of sugar), and at least 3-4 26 ounce glasses at home. I don't drink soda as I get kidney stones, so I'm strictly a water drinking person. I also don't do coffee, tea etc, never have been addicted to that stuff.

My diet thus far has been.

-6:30 am Omelettes in the morning (I add 2oz of cheese, some mushrooms and green pepper, sometimes bacon, and cook it in butter).
-9:30 am Black Olives (10) Snack
-11:30 am Chicken breast (or something simliar and small before leaving for 'work')
-2:30 pm Black Olives or 2 Oz cheddar cheese for snack
-7:00 pm Meat for dinner with 1 cup of veggies
-Sometimes a snack of cheese, veggies or something similar before bed (but not all of the time).

I know its supposed to be rough the first week (my mom did this too and had the same issues), but I just want to make sure that I'm not skipping something. And yes - I'm getting the book today (the doctor handed me a pamplet to get started with), and will be reading it!

    Thank you!

I don't see a problem with the mini meals. There is no rule that says you have to have a heavy lunch. You are doing great only drinking water. You are not getting enough veggies in though. You need to have 2 cups of salad veggies. That doesn't mean just lettuce...it means 2 servings of any of the veggies off the acceptable list. And 1 cup off the other list. You HAVE to have those veggies daily! Only 3-4 oz of cheese a day. Olives are a specialty item....you are limited to 10-20 a day and be aware they are a known staller for some people.

You are feeling bad because of the induction flu. Stay strong and it will get better by the end of the week. It is your body detoxing from the refined foods.

Get a cooler. It will help keep the dogs out of your yummy food. hard boiled eggs. Cheese cubes or crisps. Pepperoni crisps. ham and cheese and red pepper roll ups. Change the meat and cheese and veggies around for different roll ups. Roll up in the meat or in a lettuce leaf for added veggies. Lots of stuff is portable. You are only as limited as your imagination. What it will take is a little more planning. You are going to do great...especially with the dogs to keep you exercising!

Definately get the cooler! Im on the road for 12-14 hours a day, so breakfast and lunch are my main meals and my dinner, well..that is totally different. I don't use my a/c due to fuel effeciency and its rather hot ans muggy so anything big makes me sick as well. You could also, if you don't mind things like cold steak or chicken, cut them into strips a little bigger than stir fry size but smaller than say chicken strip size, fry them up the way you like them (I use butter and seasoning), let them cool and put them in a baggie! I usually can't eat cold meat but with the smaller size they are rather yummie! Take some veggies along as well and you have a nice littel meal that isnt very big and seems to hold up well in a cooler! To keep things cold I freeze 2 of my bottles of water for the day and by the end of my night they have started to melt so I still have some nice cold water after 12 hours!

You could also try some canned things(meats, veggies). they dont have to be refrigerated, and are small enough to eat the whole thing. Of course read the label

Thank you for all of the suggestions!! I will have to run out and get a cooler - and try the water thing too (especially since I need that water out in the heat!!).

            Good luck to us all!!
