  • Making Adjustments - Think it'll help?

So, I just posted most of this info in another thread (because this site asks that newbies post there first) but it looks like there are more folks hangin' out in this forum, and I'd really like some feedback so I'm posting here too

My big question is.. Has anyone made adjustments to their program after weeks of no loss? Did it help?

Here's some info about me and the adjustments I'm making:

I am Female, 38 years old, 5'3, 204 pounds as of last Saturday.

Six and a half years ago I lost 60 pounds on Atkins in about 4 months. That time, I went from 190 lbs to 130 lbs. I was a size small size 8 (fit into some size 6 too) I kept it off for about 3 1/2 years. Then (after a stormy break up with a man who was very watchful of my weight I might add) I started eating very non-Atkins-friendly foods. It was kind of like "well the relationship ended in disaster, but at least now I can eat a big bowl of pasta without getting yelled at) I probably gained 40-50 pounds the first year, then another 25-35 over the next 2 1/2 years. And here I am. 204 pounds. I can hardly believe it. 4 1/2 weeks ago I went back on Atkins and lost nothing in 4 weeks BUT I didn't do it as "clean" as I did 6 1/2 years ago. This time I didn't give up caffeine, I over-did it on the cheese, I didn't eat multiple smaller meals (just big dinners), and I was hardly drinking any water. SOOOOOOO as of yesterday, I have made some adjustments - No coffee, no cream, no cheese, eat at least 2 times during the day, and drink at least 85 ounces of water per day. I am going to stay on induction for at least another 2 weeks since I didn't lose anything the first four weeks. I hope these adjustments mak a difference. Fingers crossed!

The best advice I can give you is to read the book again. Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution, 2002 edition. Follow the instructions he gives in the book.

Honestly, if you want to be successful, read the book AGAIN and do it the way Dr. Atkins says to do it. Every single goalie on this site has reached their goal by doing it the way it said to do. Check out the Second Time Around Forum too. You can see the repetition of members who eventually try to start "changing things up" and making their own rules to the diet. It doesn't work (long term) doing that way, and they end up here over and over and over again. I can say this, I am a member of that forum. This is my second time around too. This time i gave up on doing it MY way and decided to do it Dr. Atkins way. And it works.

Thank you ValidRouge. Hmm. Well, I guess I need to be a little bit more clear. I thought I was doing it by the book, but no weight loss in 4 weeks, so I read the book again and again to tried and troubleshoot what I've been doing wrong. The only things I could come up with are the coffee/cream, eating cheese, not eating enogh meals throughout the day, not drinking enough water. Other than that, I can't think of anything else I can do. So, just curious to hear if folks think that these adjustments to what I've been doing will help.

I certainly had to do adjustments as well first time I did induction. I ate too many sweeteners and some Frankenfood (products from Atkins Nutritional) and those had to go. The second time I inducted I did it very clean from the beginning - absolutely no sweeteners.
I think you are on the right track - but I think you should try to eat more often - make it at least 3 times and do not let it go 6 waking hours between meals. It does not have to be big meals. We try to keep blood sugar level and not eating my lead to spikes.
Good luck on your second time.

Thank you. Yes, 3 meals per day, no more than six waking hours (when I siad 2 meals during the day I meant pre-dinner)

I have to say it is soooooooo nice getting the warm welcomes and feedback already!

You guys are awsome. Looking forward to getting to know everyone

Re: Making Adjustments - Think it'll help?

            Welcome, SouthBay.

Keep that trusty book handy I can honestly say it's taken me 4 weeks of induction this time around to finally see movement on the scale, but that doesn't mean that the inches aren't moving (I haven't remeasured since the beginning of last month, but I know I'm losing inches ). Readjusting to make sure you only eat and drink what's allowed during the first two weeks is essential to making it...and sometimes, not always, after re-re-re-re starting, it does take awhile for the body to adjust.

Plan ahead, give it time, stay focused, and play hard (that means find an exercise you love and do it!).

Don't give up!! Sometimes when you 're-do' Atkins, the weight doesn't come off as fast as it did the first time. Keep at it! Do you use Fitday?? It is awsome for tracking carbs, fats, protein, and calories. I couldn't live without it. I am also taking Cinnamon capsuls, one at lunch and one at dinner. It really helps with cravings, mine are almost gone! Good luck and keep us posted.
Try to get 80-100 ounces a day!

Whether you think you can, or you think you can't, you're right.
