  • Starting Over - :(

Well my "clean induction" just got spoiled by my doc. I didn't realize it but I had a GTT scheduled as part of todays office visit (I have hyoglycemia, and it's an annual checkup)... so needless to say my induction got kinda screwed. - I also got 93032349 times to hear "You don't need to diet!" Guess what... NOT DIETING. I'm trying to break my chip/pretzel/pizza/bread snacking habits and if I lose weight, then horray, if not, at least my diet will be healthier and I'll FEEL better! - my nurse with burrito breath didn't seem to care much about my answer.

I'm still up for the exercise challenges though! (Although i'll admit, today I'm MAJORLY slacking because work was ROUGH, but I'll get them in before bed tonight!!

      I agree with Elsie
Try to get 80-100 ounces a day!

Whether you think you can, or you think you can't, you're right.

        Re: Starting Over -

I appreciate the concern gals, but it'll be okay I don't plan to stray too far, but I have a diet he wants me to follow until we re-take labs next monday; and its the standard dietary plan (which includes fruits, milk, beans etc...). I have to have at least 150g of carbs or more for the next 7 days.

I certainly don't plan on eating any "crap" foods. I think my brain has made low-carb a habit already, I still made steak and broccoli tonight at dinner instead of potatoes or rice ... without really thinking about it. I think it'll be harder for me to aim for a 5-a day diet this weekend than it will be to go back to < 20g complex carbs on monday!

I'll be ready for some boot camp next monday!

Side note ... out of curiosity I checked my ketone strips ... I'm already out of ketosis, not even a trace reading... less than 9 hours from my test this afternoon. Guess I know my personal "out of ketosis" timetable!

I feel GREAT. Hopefully I won't feel like crap this weekend, taking in starches and fruits :-(

          Re: Starting Over -

Remember that the '5 a day' means fairly close to our 3 cups of veg.

          A serving size is:
          • One medium-size fruit
          • 1/2 cup raw, cooked, frozen or canned fruits (in 100% juice) or vegetables
          • 3/4 cup (6 oz.) 100% fruit or vegetable juice
          • 1/2 cup cooked, canned or frozen legumes (beans and peas)
          • 1 cup raw, leafy vegetables
          • 1/4 cup dried fruit
          So:
1 cup of leafy salad veg = 1 serving
          1/2 cup brocolli = 1 serving
          1/2 cup rhubarb = 1 serving
          1/2 cup raw mushrooms = 1 serving
1/2 cup raw red peppers = 1 serving
So within the 3 cups of induction there are 5 servings already!!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

            Re: Starting Over -

Right, but in induction I can't do beans, fruits or grains ... I can cover the meat and vegs, but not the others.

I had a REALLY hard time eating fruit today, i actually got a headache from the sugar in the apple I ate this morning. I'm almost scared to try sweet potatoes at dinner tonight :-(

Do you have to have apples? Maybe berries might suit your body better as they are not as high in sugar.

No..I guess you can't...but you CAN eat more up the rung and make the lowest GI choices within those food groups. I get the feeling you think we are over reacting a bit. I will tell you why. Those of us who have been on this board for awhile..have either experience personally or have read so many posts about people taking a break...or doing a planned cheat and it not working out. Either with them not being about to get back on track and keep doing induction over and over or quitting all together. So just so you know we are coming for a place of care for you and want you to be your best. Good luck!!

*HUGS* I so love this board

10 more days until I can get back to induction!!

-- btw, TY for the berries idea, no headache. I'm wondering if it could've been from the caffiene in it! (Hubby mentioned that concept, seeing as I was ADDICTED to coffee - 6-7 cups a day - and haven't had any in almost 2 weeks...)
