Day 2 DELIBILITATING headache..?

Subject should say "Day 2 DEBILITATING headache". Guess the headache is impacting my vision, too!


I have allergies and have had a sinus headache (though it had been managable) since the weekend.

Yesterday was day two of induction... around 2pm out of the blue my managable sinus headache turned into this wollop of pain from the top of my head wrapping around to the back of my head at the base of my skull. I was in such blinding pain that I wanted to cry like a baby and vomit at the same time. I was like that the rest of the day.

I would have been more worried about it except I remembered reading about induction headaches in the past and thought I'd throw it out here and check in on it. I can still feel it this morning but it's WAY less intense and seems to be going away.

Can anyone share headache experiences with me? I'm just curious if my carb addiction (which has been pretty rampant and well-fed up to now) is the culprit or not...

i started induction on a sunday night.. by tuesday i had the headache, nothing helped, it was similar to headaches i have had when not having my morning coffee, or not drinking enough water,, lasted a solid 24 hours.. because of the allergies and sinus problem sounds like you have a whopper.. hang in there, it will get better

i would say definately a result of getting rid of those bad carbs in your system.. You probably just had your worst day of induction. It will get easier.

I go thrugh the same thing. Make certain you are getting enough fluids and food or it will be worse. It does fade away. I take some Alieve and get friendly with a dark room and a cold pack.

I just started Induction Monday and by that evening, I was suffering. It was worse yesterday. I attempted to go to work, got to the parking lot, and just couldn't bear trying to find a park. I left and went home. I tried taking bayer, zyrtecD (which has sudafed for sinus pressure, which is what I thought it was), and then BC. The BC helped a little, very little, but at least it helped. Today I'm back at work. I woke up feeling fine, a little, but now feeling like crap, although it isn't as bad as yesterday. I think maybe like others have said the body is going through withdrawals. Has to because usually I take a BC and come back strong! lol I feel like a crackless crackhead (I think).

I CAN TOTALLY RELATE! This is a very good description and I'm going to have to use it. My other favorite comes from a very good friend of ours. He's a few years younger and when he occassionally wakes up hung over he says he feels like "pounded sh*t". That description works here, too...!

My head is killin me too.. hurts to look at the comp screen... i thought i wouldnt get any "induction flu" symtoms.. but here it is.. its gotta just pass.. make sure u drink a lot of water for some reason it helps... its just those nasty carbs screamming at ya' but be strong!

I'm trying to be strong. Thank goodness I don't have the cravings. Matter of fact, I think part of my problem is that I'm not eating enough. I'm going for the gusto today. lol

Crafty, someone from another thread mentioned if it was like a sugar crash. For me, I think so. I was a big time carb eater. Potatoes, pasta, sweets all day long. It makes so much sense now that they fill you for a moment but I always had the desire to eat more. I got this other saying from "The Devil Wears Prada" which I love, love, love and for some reason I could watch over and over. This one chick that was working as a second assistant was sick one day and said she felt like "death warmed up". LOL Now that was just too funny. I think I'm having that kind of moment.

I'm on my 1st day and in bed with a terrible headache (sinus). I took motrin and a sleeping pill so I wake up to a new tomorrow. I was thinking allergies but sounds like t could be Atkins. I have sinus pain daily-just not this bad. Thanks for the "me too" messages-it helps to know it's a step I'll need to travel to get where I need to be.

IT IS so interesting to me that you say this... I frimly believe in the addicive nature of the kind of carbs we eat (we used to eat) in this day in age.

CARBS are addictive and that is why we are fat... because we are addicted. BUT carbs are legal and tolerated and BIG business...

So you are absolutely going through withdrawls... You are addicted to carbs... the bad ones... and you have to walk though the pain to see the other side clearly.

So you are in the right place... we are kind of like a 12 step group...

Hello, my name is Kathy, and I am an addict... and I mean that in all seriousness... that is how critical atkins is to me in my life.

Just know that the pain does not last, and the pain is to be a reminder that you never want to go back... and know also that you will feel fantastic on the other side of the pain...

Yep...mine was a migraine for about 3 days. Hang in there...drink your water and stay on plan!! I haven't had one since then!!

I have had severe miagraines for years. I get hospitalized quite often with them. If I catch it early enough to take Aleve, or Aleve sinus then I can avoid an ER visit, but not they wheel me off for another few mg. of morphine or demerol. I hate it, but I have had them so badly that I burst vessels in my eye and passed out, got sick and could not stand or talk. I feel for anyone that has them, my heart goes out to you. But, if it is only induction withdrawls hang tight it will pass. I have only had 2 miagraines since May 17th. 2008 both under control not leading to ER. That is a big improvement for me.

Thank you all for your kind words.

My headaches have finally passed but Friday when they went away, every now and then the headaches or I should say head pain would come back for a few minutes and then leave. Does anyone know if that's normal for then to pop up suddenly then leave? I'm thinking I may need a CT scan or something.

If you are in doubt and think something is wrong then go to the doctor. The fact that they have dimished since Friday may mean that it is a normal part of induction flu for you but I would say if they are still bothering you by Monday you should go in just so you no longer have to worry about it. Let us know here though.
