  • Oh oh, I messed up :(

After 1 week of being into induction ( 6 pounds lost ) I caved in to eating a little bit of rice and 2 glasses of orance juice...

    Had some this morning too.

Is it too late to save my induction?

just go right back on plan, depending on how much you have to lose, you might want to consider doing a 3 week induction or longer...

I'd agree with the previous posters. I'd also suggest chopping off one finger as punishment, but that might come off a bit barbaric...

            Eric. LOL !!!
I suggest you refocus. Why did you eat these things? Try to go through what went wrong so you can avoid making the same blunder in a few days. Those two blunders likely (because they are so high glycemic) mean you are out of ketosis and now you have to work yourself back there. Better if you can avoid it in the first place. But none of us are perfect - however, if we can learn from our mistakes we will get a little better (that is the theory anyhow )

Just keep going. You've already realized you had something off plan, dont dwell on it and continue to eat on plan foods. You've had a great loss so far

Do not punish yourself!! your on induction--so easy to pick up the pieces and start again! your body may need up to 3 days to use up what you consumed--then your back on track!

Remember "one" of the biggest goals for the 2 week induction is to switch your metabolism to fat burning! punishing yourself just makes it worse.

Re: Oh oh, I messed up

I noticed in your other thread you asked if it was okay to eat beans like kidney beans during Induction. In light of that and in light of the rice and orange juice mistake, I think you really need to take the advice you were given in your other thread: Read the book. Especially, read the chapters on how to do Induction and the Induction Acceptable Foods List and the Induction Rules.

You won't succeed if you keep eating the wrong foods because you don't know what they are or how to do the Induction phase properly. Sorry if that sounds harsh or mean, but it's the truth. None of us wants to see you fail at your Atkins, but it's up to YOU to help yourself by reading about the Diet and how to do it properly. We can't do it for you.

I would start over, if you have an outfit or pair of jeans that you want to fit into, hang them somewhere where you will see them several times a day, that helped me. I see that outfit even when I am not at home!!! Inspiration clothes!!

I love the diversity on this board. If I were tempted during induction, it surely wouldn't be on rice or orange juice! Or kidney beans for that matter.

chocolate, on the other hand, chips, peanut butter pie, cookies. Now you're talking

Re: Oh oh, I messed up

I wouldn't start over if I were you. I messed up twice, back to back but I'm not starting over. I'm sure that won't be the first time. If you had to start over everytime you messed up, you'd probably never get anywhere. Dr. Atkins mentioned in his book about messing up and just getting back up and continuing. He didn't say anything about starting over. I'm trying to learn how to continue to eat right even when I'm under severe stress. I can't start over everytime I mess up. If I did, I'd be tempted to just quit, feeling like a failure.

Keep going! And just try to fight the urge to get off track.

Re: Oh oh, I messed up

I know cooking for family that you do not want to limit your families selections and you want to continue to give them the comfort foods that they are
used to. My daughters are both very active in sports and it is work to try to keep
there weight up. They tend to lose rather than gain. I try to cook myself Atkins
friendly alternatives the same time that I am making the family meal. That seems
to make it easier to "just say no" to non induction friendly foods. Do not get discouraged. It gets easier. Just get right back to it. Drinking losts of water
seems to help curve appetite and cravings. You will find that you get fuller faster
and want to eat much less. Also try to eat slowly. Sit down as a family and enjoy
                              each others company.
