  • Any thoughts on the program "Walk away the pounds"

    Hi everyone :wave

Well...I think I have bite the bullet and start doing some kind of exercising..... groan
I was wondering if "walk away the pounds" was a worthwhile program if anyone has any experience or suggestions I would love to hear it.

    Thanks!

    Peter

Yes, exercise is key!! I'm not familiar with this program, what is it? All I know is the only cardio I do is walking. I walk briskly, enough to get my heart rate up, for an extended period (45 minutes) and I find it much more effective for weightloss than running. Can ya give me the gist of the program?

      Higgies,

I haven't exercised in so long..all I can say is yikes. From what I know walk away the pounds is a do it at program, on DVD and VHS but from what I read on epinions.com people swear by it.

I know nothing beats just getting out there and walking - but all I know is at my weight if I don't get movin' I'll be facing bigger problems...but my motivation to get going is zilch. I think it's great you're out there walking - jogging is incredibly hard on your joints and bones

      Higgies,

BTW, great website - I went to Emerson in Boston right in the heart of Back Bay.

Had a one bedroom apartment on Beacon St. Fireplace, Bay windows, eat in kitchen and a parking space for 215.00 a month...dating myself a little eh? Still remains my favorite city back then there was ONE comedy club in Boston - a Chinese restaurant called Aku Aku...don't know if it's still there. Dennis Leary , Mario Cantone, Eddie Brill, Steven Wright and yours truly used to do sets there..but my stand up comedy was more like stand up tragedy - those guys of course made it pretty big.

I guess I made it big too (pats belly)

      Peter

BTW, you're weightloss is a total inspiration - I can't belive it's the same person!

I have it too. I do the 3 mile and 4 mile tapes (worked my way up from the 1 mile tape). I also use slightly heavier weights now during the work out.

I recently purchased the "Walk and Kick" tape. It's 30 minutes. It's pretty good. No weights required for this video, but I use 2 pound hand weights during it.

I use the WATP program. I love it. It was a program that I could do and not be absolutely dying the next day. I also go to the track now without those tapes I don't think I could have made the track.

Again, I have to say your cat is absolutely beautiful. Give the kitty a big hug for me.

              :wave Hey, Peter!

I have 7 of Leslie's Walk Away The Pounds (WATP- for short) and I absolutely love them! For people like me who have more than 100 lbs to lose, they are especially great because there is not bending, laying down, jumping from position to position, and it is so gosh-darn easy to do! That was how I lost 40 lbs last time I was on Atkins (and was serious about it! LOL). I am starting to use them again today, as I have been putting of exercise for some time now. :icondance I stopped using them before out of pure lazyness. lol! If you get some, I would suggest getting some on "Half-Ebay" because they are really cheap. Or Walmart and Ross (if you have one in your city) have a limited selection of them but ebay is definitely cheaper. And my second suggestion, would be to get the ones that have the weighted balls (no pun intended--hee hee!) first. I use those and it is really easy for me. I don't have the exercise balls but its just as well because I couldn't do them right now anyways! She has tons of videos and it can be kinda confusing on which ones to get. What I love is that they somehow are all different even though she is teaching the same moves. Don't get me wrong; they are easy but they are challenging enough to lose weight. Each Mile tape is more challenging than the one before. I really recommend it especially if not being seen while exercising outside or in the gym (like me) is not a plus right now for you. I know people who have lost 100-190 lbs just doing her tapes. Let us know if you try it!

Peter they are a great searies for a beginner. Once you conqure the last tape you will need to move to a harder workout series. I know Brook the early mod here recommended them for everyone and Christie an early mod was doing them. There should be a WATPs group here if you post a challenge in the exercise challenge forun you might pick up some folk wanting to be exercise internet buddies.

                  Well, thanks everybody!

I definitely need to get moving so I'm going to go to Target today and get the one with the "Weighted Balls"

Megs all I can say is you always are so encouraging...I could never walk around a track, the thought of it makes me winded. But who knows one day you might find me gasping and groaning right behind you (please don't take that the wrong way)

JuJu...now about these "weighted Balls" do they come with the program" or do I have to go looking for my balls else where? Do I hold my weighted balls in my hand while walking and do exercise with them?

or are my balls just for added endurance?....and exactly just how heavy are my set of balls?

Once I get started...and I have over 100 pounds to lose as well, but hey if my balls can help me lose a few pounds and lower my blood pressure I'm all for it. I'll keep you guys posted and on a serious note - thanks for the encouragement!

Peter, I never thought I would be able to walk outdoors around a bike path (I walk in a park when the weather's nice), but I do. And so can you!

The weighted balls are 2 pound weights that are filled with water. You can buy traditional dumbell-type 2 pound hand weights at Walmart or KMart for under $10. When you want to graduate to heavier weights, you can buy another set. Try to get the free weights with the neoprene covering because they are more slip resistant since your hands can get sweaty while you work out.

You are correct, the weights add extra resistance to the work out (when I outdoor walk I carry weights with me. In fact, there's a weighted vest some walkers use instead of carrying weights. I think carrying weights is more intimidating to muggers because you can always use them as a weapon lol). Anyhow, if you don't feel you are strong enough to use the weights during the video, do without. Then as you build up strength, add them on.

                      LOL!

                      Peter,

You are tooooo funny!! LOL! That is the best laugh I had all day! I saw your other post to me too! (wink!) Yes, they come with the program. If you can't find them at Target Boutique, here is a link to them on her site: http://www.walkaerobics.com/store/gt0022.html or you can just buy the videos at Target and buy your balls here: http://www.lesliesansone.com/store/gt0024.html
I haven't seen a set with balls in stores yet but who knows, they might be there. There is one that I got there with the Ab belt. LOL! Honey, I could get that ab belt around my left toe but not any chance near my waist! Maybe one day, I can get it on my head. But those ones are good too just I couldn't do the 1 mile, that one was a bit higher paced and too hard for me. The ones in the wieghted balls set are what I use. I know you want to get started right away; maybe you can buy the tape set at Target (one should be called, "get up and get started" then you know you have the right ones) and then order your balls online. ensive

                        JuJu,

This ball thing has had me laughing all day - you nut!

If you knew me you would know I'll be using this for months, I think my maturity level stopped at eleven.

I went to Target, a huge one just opened here...my god it's enormous they have escalators for your cart...to get from floor to floor so it's kind of like an amusement park ride you push the cart though these little doors and travels along next to you.

I found lot's of WATP stuff but no weights or balls, so I bought the DVD total home walking work out. It has three work outs get up and started, High calorie burn, Super fat burning. So you start with one mile and work your way up to three.

To give you an idea of just how out of shape I am..just going to the Target, doing some shopping and coming home wore me out..this is not good. So I'll start tomorrow but I'm actually excited about it ...I'm just so sick of being fat!!!!! and really not just for vanity reasons..I miss doing simple things like going to the market or walking the dog without feeling like I'm going to have a coronary, thanks again

                          :wave H, Peter.

I started Atkins 1-3-05. When I started, I had no energy because of my eating habits. I started exercising the 3rd week. I just kept trying. I don't won't to be overweight any longer. I am still early on my journey. Exercising is not so bad anymore. This is the 5th week of exercise. You can do it. I believe in you.

You will love the WATP. When I started, I could barely finish the one mile. I did one mile for almost 6 months before advancing. I then conquered the 2 mile, 3 mile, and 4 mile. I still love the 3 mile the best. I have just started two new ones.. the walk/jog interval exercise and the stability ball ab workout.
And the weighted balls are great. I got mine at Target in a set with a resistance band and a pedometer..
