Yesterday was Day # 1 of Induction. Tomorrow will be Day #1 of induction...

On Monday I did great. No Sugar and only 1 tsp of flour because I didn't realize until after I ate it that my husband's Gramma made her "flour free gravy" with a tbsp of flour... about 1tsp in my small portion.

Anyhow, today there was a potluck at work. I ate the meatballs and chicken and salad because they were okay items, but I didn't even think about the fact that they had sweet and sour on the meatballs and yakisoba sauce on the chicken and veggies.

Tonight when I get off work (in 30 minutes) I am going to the Market to get all of my fresh veggies for the rest of this week. I am also going to the Fish market for some shrimp and I planned my meals from here on out just to be safe

B: 2 eggs and either 2 sausage or 2 bacon w/ cheese on eggs
    S: Veggies
L: Salad (2 cups) w/ mushrooms avocado cucumbers peppers hard boiled egg olives and sugar free dressing
    or
Sallad (2 cups) w/ tomatoes greek olives feta cheese olive oil and vinegar

    D:

spaghetti squash with shrimp sauteed in garlic butter with broccoli and cauliflower (Husband gets cream sauce and real noodles)
    or
bun free burger w/ mayonnaise and mustard with bbq'd asparagus (olive oil and sea salt) (husband gets bun with his and potato salad
    or
pork chop w/ artichokes on the grill (husband gets brown sugar dressing on his pork chop and potatoes too)

Dessert: Sugar free popcicle ( I make myself w/ crystal light mix and water)

So I think since I planned it all out I will be okay... and if you ask me that menu doesn't seem like a diet at all... it's all pretty yummy stuff!!!

Help on the snacks anyone??? It's just too much veggie matter for me to have it for 2 snacks and lunch!
    Have a Beautiful Day

    Re: Not so good

Sorry about the setbacks. I would actually stay away from meatballs regardles of the sauce because they usually contain either flour or breadcrumbs. I have yet to find any that don't unless its a specifically low carb recipe. You menu looks good and as long as you are counting your carbs you should be fine. The crystal light is a no-no however. It contains fruit solids and aspartame which is not recommended not to mention really bad for you. Its a known staller. Popsicle brand makes a sugar free popsicle that is good but I would save them for after induction because they contain sugar alcohols which people sometimes have problems with. Best to have as clean an induction as possible, then worry about experimenting later on. There are plenty of delicious other things you can make without feeling deprived. Anyway good luck!

I would check out the recipe threads here for snack ideas or these sites:

The best policy is when in doubt, don't eat it. Unless you made it yourself who knows whats in it.

      Re: Not so good

Aspartamme is one thing that I won't ever end up giving up. In the past it hasn't caused any problems for me as far as weight loss goes. I do limit myself to 1 per diet coke per day. I'll skip the crystal light though because I wasn't aware until just now that they had aspartame... They tend to be too sweet for me anyhow... However, during induction, I am drinking Diet Coke w/ Splenda, I don't care as much for it and will experiment w/ switching back to caffeine free diet coke after induction. I know caffeince can cause a problem with some people in the hunger area, but I haven't been hungry, so I think I'll be okay. if I don't see success though that will be one of the first things I remove from my diet. Thanks for the advice!!!

I know its hard, I used to be a huge soda junkie myself - I mean like 10 a day. Its your choice but if you are going to keep it in, I would recommend drinking extra water at least to help flush out your system. You might also want to try drinking flavored seltzer. I have one every now and then. The lemon-lime kind tastes like sprite to me. This diet really reconditions your taste buds in a good way.

Welcome and I think it's great that you started but my question to you is, did you read the book or not? Some of the things you are eating you shouldnt be. Or at least I wouldnt while on induction. You appear to have a long way to go so let's fix it and make it right early on. God Bless,Joe

I liked your menu. I think it will work well for you. Are you counting your carbs? And remembering 2 cups from the salad list (or 3) and one from the other?

I think those experiences you had of eating silly stuff is something we all have before we really learn to think hard about what really is in our food.

            Good luck

              Re: Not so good

I am counting my carbs... My salads are usually around 3 carbs all from the veggies and 1 carb from the cheese My dinners have carbs only from the veggies. I made some meatballs last night without any bread crumbs or flour or anything just the seasonings I normally use and an egg and then made it in patty form instead of ball form. I ate it with spaghetti squash and a side salad (just lettuce and cucumbers with olive oil)

Joe, Yes I did read the book! The things I ate on Tuesday that I'm not allowed to eat was because of the potluck at work. I conciously decided not to just have the salad and start over today. The potluck was for my promotion, so I couldn't just not eat what people made me. They all felt super bad though because they didn't know what I couldn't eat.

              Anyhow, starting fresh today

              B: 2 eggs (1 carb)
S: 8 almonds (I know I'm not supposed to have nuts or seeds in induction but I could have eaten that or nothing at all and I hadn't eaten since 5:30am and it was 12:00pm)
L: Chicken breast w/ sauted mushrooms and 1 oz of cheese

                Re: Not so good

Almonds are very practical snack things and great once you reach that rung. However, you should try to aim for a clean induction so you need to plan some other emergency snacks that can tie you over next time. I always use boiled eggs, cheese strings, meat leftovers (I take a mini cooler with me to work).
2 eggs is not a lot for breakfast - especially if you do not have a chance to eat again till noon. How about some bacon to go with it? I love to make eggs scrambled with cheese served with sauteed veggies (I am crazy about snowpeas, mushrooms and a bit of onions)

                  Re: Not so good

You've got some great tips here. I just want to add that if you think you're hungry, eat a meal---small or large, and avoid the idea that you have to have a snack. A small meal can be just about anything in the induction list.

But if you know you're going to be away from a cooler you can store with you at your desk, in your car, or wherever you'll be away from your normal eating place, try tossing in string cheese (yes, it's okay to hold it in your purse---it taste better too!) and olives in a ziploc; or even celery with cream cheese mixed with cooked bacon. A few salty ideas that I try to avoid but bring when necessary, a handful of pork rinds in a ziploc or even microwaved pepperoni chips and cheese.

                  Keep up the great work!

i eat meatballs. I just make them myself. Or, just eat hamburger meat. the best thing you can do when you fail is dust yourself off and get right back on.

                      Re: Not so good

Thanks for all of the great tips! I had 2 slices of bacon w/ my 2 eggs and had a tbsp of parmesan on my eggs this morning. I didn't have time to go to the store yesterday. I was going to get some onion and peppers for my eggs in the morning.

I brought some mushrooms for a snack today

For lunch I'll have 2 C of salad with 1 mini cuke (about 1/2 C sliced up) 2 Tbsp parmesan cheese and feta dressing (sugar carb free and it tastes so good!)

                      A couple of concerns:

The bag of salad I bought says 2 C has 4 carbs, the induction list (from the atkins website) says that 2C iceburg has .4 Carbs

The mushrooms I bought are presliced and it says that 5 of them has 3 carbs. That's not even close to 1/2 Cup and it says that 1/2 C has 1.2 Carbs

Is this a Net Carb issue? I don't have the bag with me from the lettuce so I can't check but I'll go look at the mushrooms here in a bit!

                      Thanks again

Probably the net carb thing. Are you keeping track using the cup measure method? (2 cup salad veggies, 1 cup other veggie?)

Yeah I measured my lettuce mix in a 2 Cup Bowl and then added 2 slices of turkey about 1/4 Cup Cucumber (after you cut up the mini cucumber) 2 Tbsp Parmesan and 1/4 Cup Mushrooms. I'll use my other 1/2 Cup veggies at dinner for artichoke. How would I go about measuring that? I only eat the ends of the leaf and the heart. I'd think a whole artichoke would only be about 1/2 Cup??? Anyone have any clue?
