  • Gaining weight???

I started induction a week ago 7/8/08. I lost pretty consistantly until yesterday. I weighed 147.6 on Sunday morning, 148.3 yesterday morning, and 149.1 this morning. I felt I was getting better at induction the longer I've done it. My ketostix say that I'm still in the large range (80). I checked my measurements and that haven't changed since I last checked on 7/12/08. I'm starting to freak out just a little bit. Any ideas????

p.s. I won't be available to reply to any posts or questions until after 12:00 pacific time.

    Re: Gaining weight???

Weight fluctuates all the time, this morning the scale said i'm up 3lbs and i know i'm not prob .. i do know i didnt get all my water in yesterday so that happens to me. Just keep on eating right and exercise it'll move, dont get discouraged. This is prob why they dont want u to weigh yourself until your 2wks are up.

Why are you weighing yourself so much? Perhaps you had too much sodium intake or something that'll make you retain water. Or you are building muscle while you are working out. So long as you are losing inches that's what matters. The pounds will come off too. I suggest you stay off that scale and that way you'll not worry yourself. God Bless,Joe

I know I need to way myself less, I'm pretty impatient so seeing a smaller number daily, even by tenths of an ounce was motivating. I also know I have not been drinking enough water, and buying more lunches than I have been bringing so it's most likely the sodium. I'll try harder to drink water and I will wait until the weekend or longer to weigh myself again. I may stay on induction longer than 2 weeks depending on how I feel next week too. I'm scared to add more carbs LOL.

Don't take too much stock in what the scale says. This thread might help you:

Also, its really best to try to make your own food as much as possible, especially during induction. Unless you make it yourself you don't know what's in it. I would recommend posting your daily menu in the rate my menu section. Its easier to pinpoint potential problems when we know what you're eating. Drinking your water is really important. You need to flush all that bad stuff from before you started the plan out of your system. Lastly, be patient. If you stick to the plan, you will see results.

How long did it take you to gain weight?? I know, we all want it to melt right off, but it does take time. Please, don't be afraid of OWL. The key to keeping the weight off forever is learning how to eat for the rest of your life, not just to lose weight quickly. You will do just great!
Oh, weigh in once a week, in the morning before you eat or drink anything.
Try to get 80-100 ounces a day!

Whether you think you can, or you think you can't, you're right.

I echo murphy'smom on the 'dont be afraid of OWL' topic

The first rung of it is to add 5 net carbs more of your induction-legal veggies, which will expand your choices - and as Emma used to say - no-one ever got fat from eating their induction-legal veg!!

Also with a total of 28 pounds to lose you really shouldnt waste too much time hanging around on induction, as you need time to conduct the great OWL scientific experiment - which will help you discover if any foods affect you and find out your CCLL.

Remember Dr Atkins told us we should have reached premaintenance by the time we have 5-10 pounds left to lose, so as to allow us to lose those last few pounds 'imperceptively' as we slowly approach our goal weight.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

The sodium can change things dramatically from day to day, as can your water intake. You need to drink to flush things out. Also monthly hormonal changes. TOM is good for 5 pounds with me, and mid month I sometimes get whacky things happening with the scale too.

If you have been buying lunches, there is a good chance there are hidden sugars.

                      Hello and congrats!
You are down 5 lbs. without a lot to lose to reach your goal weight so you are actually within the typical range. It is common to fluctuate a few pounds.
Keep focused and reading all the posts and the book. Be sure to exercise more than you usually do. Find something you like to do.
