  • Atkins Products???

Hello I'm new to the program. I just bought a whole bunch of atkins products(bars, shakes, etc) they say they are good for all phases. Reading through some of the threads I saw that some people say this is not correct for the first 14 days. Please advise. I just started yesterday and feel like I screwed up already. Thank you!

    Re: Atkins Products???

Julie, Atkins products were meant for emergency purposes back when Dr. A was alive. Today, there a marketing experience for the company. This way of eating is without the bars and shakes to clean your system of the impurities that have accumulated in your body and caused it to gain weight or have other health issues. Following the original plan (2002 book) will help you succeed

As you read the ingredients of the bars and shakes, notice what they are made of. Read up more on those ingredients and start finding out how they will affect your body. Sugar alcohols are known for stalls and issues of stopping/haulting/stalling weight loss---and sugar cravings. You'll want more. Your body will burn all the sugar alcohol and sugars before it will burn fat. Or if you're of the lucky few, you'll be able to digest the sugar alcohol without the stalls/stopping etc. of weight loss.

You haven't screwed up. But if you're wanting to make sure you follow the plan, my suggestion would be to save yourself the money, return the items back to the store and buy the fresh veggies, meats, and dairy you'll need for Induction and enjoy those. Keep in mind that the bars and shakes could be useful (some people can't tolerate them ever) later on down the road for the higher rungs---On going weight loss rungs.

    I hope that helps.

        Re: Atkins Products???

        Great, great, post Lisa!

I just wanted to add my own experience... I have been in Maintenance since 11/11/07, and have tried adding the bars on numerous occasions... nothing but trouble for me. I can't stop at one in a day, they trigger cravings, and I ended up gaining weight. Of course, reactions may vary between individuals, but I haven't heard anything good about the bars. I can use a shake on occasion without nearly the same side effects as the bars, but as Lisa mentioned, they are to be used in emergency cases only and not daily as a substitute for real food. And remember, since they contain soy protein isolate, they technically are NOT legal for Induction.

I'm looking at the latest issue of Fitness magazine right now, and on the inside of the back cover there is an add for the bars and shakes. The slant on their advertising is ridiculous... they call them "Sweet Sexy Science". Get sexy results it says... up to 15 pounds in 2 weeks.

I'd put my money on the fact that not many people who use bars and shakes daily during Induction will lose 15 pounds in 2 weeks. (read the fine print - RESULTS NOT TYPICAL)

I think the push to use these daily are a load of . Just a way for the company to make money.

Unfortunately... it's a business... and they're probably more interested in $$$ than in your/our weight loss.
