I was wondering how many of you just stayed away from social events during your induction? Do you find it easier to stick to it if you stay home and don't go out at least for that first two weeks? For those of you who have how did it affect you? For those of you who didn't how did you stick to it with all the temptation? any advice? i'm on day 4 and going out tonight to a party. i am gearing myself up saying I will not drink i will not drink i will not drink which is what i think i would cheat w more than food. No I'm not an alcoholic but in party settings I do like to have a few drinks to loosen up and enjoy myself. But I will not. I have come too far(yes 3 full days is far to me lol) and i don't want to give in just to have to start all over again tomorrow when i could just be disciplined tonight and be proud of myself tomorrow. If i have a nice filling dinner before do you think it would help the urge? Being that my tummy would be full? What do you guys think? Advise and support please.

Re: Having a social life on Induction
Call the host/hostess and ask what's on the menu---just say you're cutting back on added sugars and refined grains and trying to eat more whole, minimally processed foods. IF the menu doesn't sound too Atkins friendly, eat a full meal before going. If the menu has some Atkins foods, still eat a meal before going. Then you can nibble on the Atkins foods during the party, if you need to.Originally posted by thinkinthin247 View PostI was wondering how many of you just stayed away from social events during your induction? Re: Having a social life on Induction
Eat before you go. Bring something Atkins friendly along as an addition.
While I like to encourage people to not have any artificial sweetners during induction since you may feel like that drinking part is what is going to get you bring some diet pop (coke?) and a lemon and make just pretend you are drinking a rum and coke. Or some tonic water or soda water..whatever it is you like. That way you will be holding a glass and sipping and giving yourself the feeling of participating. Good luck and post here in this thread and let us know how it goes.
Dang...was off the boards for a few days and didn't notice this post was a few days old...how did you do??Elsie150

Re: Having a social life on Induction
i dont drink so i dont have an answer for that part, however over july 4th there was a church pot luck pic nic and not knowing what other than burgers would be there i brought my own chees and turkey to "snack" on while everyone else had chips and potato salad.. it worked .. oh and drink extra water too even if they have atkins friendly food it may have been prepared with more salt than you would prepare it yourself... just a thought

Re: Having a social life on Induction
During the first six months or so of Atkins, any entertaining was done where I would have control of the food. On some occasions where I would go out, I'd eat first or carry my own snacks or make something for the host that I could eat.
When you are alone in your head, you are in a bad neighborhood.

Re: Having a social life on Induction
Cograts and Great posts!
Another advantage to eating first you take the pressure off you.
Plus, you will not be be smiling around th party with food in your teeth!
Contacting the host might work, depends on them and your relationship. They might see you as demanding when they are already wrestling with the whole event. Ask what you can do to help them, can you being something or better yet do something to help at the event? A quid pro quo.
If you must drink something, there are some very low carb drinks in the DANDR. Mix it yourself. Also, Ultra beer is about 2 carbs if you can sip one for a while that will work. Just don't fall off the wagon entirely. Pretend you are an astronaut and only allowed the one Ultra. lol240/231/198

Re: Having a social life on Induction
I know it's been a while since this one started, but to answer the question:
My husband & I have been to more social events with friends/family/clients/co-workers more since I've been on induction (just about to finish 2nd week) then the last 3 months! Something about summer I guess! I just make sure to eat what I know I can or nothing at all. Most of them have been BBQ's where I can omit the bun etc or restaurants where I can get steak (no sugar or added crap)
However, Day 2 of week 1 on induction there was a potluck at work and I definitely ate stuff that I shouldn't have....
Have a Beautiful Day
