Title says it all....Is the goal to STAY in ketosis during induction. I am kind of confused about this. It sounds like an idiotic question, but I was just curious. I have been in ketosis since Monday (lost four lbs according to the Wii Fit which I trust more than my "real" scale) but the colors tend to fluctuate. Is this still OK?

Re: Do you want to be in Ketosis all of the time?
yes.
you want to stay in ketosis, ketosis is the state of burning fat stores for energy rather than carbohydrates. if you're talking about the colors on the ketostix, any color means you're in ketosis, from a trace to a dark purple. The color can vary based on a lot of things...drinking a lot of water...not drinking a lot of water (sleep)..etc. if you see any color at all you're in ketosis. exercise can darken the color.

Smaug man-
Sounds like you are using a pack of ketone test strips like from CVS for about $10. (Ask the Pharmacist, right?)
You sound fine.
Negative is not in ketosis, so there are no measurable ketones in your system to indicate you are burning fat.
Any positive says you are burning fat stores rather than the carbs you ate in the past few hours, like Carbless in Seattle said.
Trace is some small about which says you are in ketosis.
Small is better
Moderate is better yet. I usually register here.
Large is even better.
Any is fine.
Hope this helps.

Thanks.
I do seem to be going pretty linear there except for one drunken weekend that couldn't be avoided with a client.
I started negative, went through trace, and now I'm in between small and moderate.
