  • Pork Rinds

Okay..I'm on day 17. Only down about 9lbs...well the scale keeps fluctuating between 6 and 9 lbs down. Anyway...the last couple of days I've gone so light on the Ketostix..most of the day I was not in Ketosis. I noticed that when I over indulged in Pork Rinds, (a bag in a day), ...that was about the same time I went negative on the Ketostix. Has anyone had this issue with Pork Rinds or should I look elsewhere for hidden carbs? I know I'm drinking about 2 cups of decaf coffee with 1.5 splendas for each cup. Having about a cup of Whipping cream throughout the day on jello and in coffee. Drink about 2 diet Pepsi's/Cokes a day. (I was drinking Pepsi One but it has caffeine so I switched back to Diet Caffeine Coke cause I figured it was better than injesting the caffine).

Other than that....it's hamburgers (homemade 4% fat), and chicken and about 3 slices of cheese. Can anybody spot what's causing the problem??? I do excercise...about every other day I do an hour bike ride...or walk.

    Re: Pork Rinds

There could be a number of problems according to what you have written. First off, you want to be careful with the pork rinds because they make you retain water. You're only allowed 2-3 packets of splenda a day, if you're drinking it in coffee and jello you're over your limit. You're only allowed 2-3 TBS of cream a day, a cup is way over your limit. Diet Coke/Pepsi contains Aspartame and it is a known staller for many people. Are you eating any veggies? Drinking a lot of water? You need to get your water and veggies in. This isn't a NO carb diet, it's a LOW carb diet and you should be getting most of your carbs from veggies. Limit your cream, sugar, aspartame intakes and up your water and veggies and see what happens. Hope that helps.

I'd axe the aspartame altogether, actually the diet pepsi/coke as well. it also has caffeine to boot!

I think IrishMom is spot on. Between the Splenda packets, the jello and the diet soft drinks, I'd say you are getting an overdose of artificial sweeteners.

As far as the pork rinds go, plain pork rinds should be carb free (or mostly free), but flavored rinds (i.e. barbecue) likely will have carbs added for the flavoring. Always check the ingredients.

Other than that, we don't know your start and goal weight. 9 pounds isn't all that bad for two and a half weeks, especially if you don't have 90+ pounds to lose.

          Re: Pork Rinds

Excellent suggestions for you here, Kelly!

I just have to about the pork rinds---consider them a side dish/snack that you have once a day. Serving size matters with food. Over eating is still over eating. In my humble opinion (because I've eaten pork rinds all day long before and let me just say, it wasn't a great life for a couple of days), leave them alone as long as you can and then portion them out into baggies for that once a day serving---if you really need them.

Drink your water, exercise, and stay focused

ps...I'm not a huge advocate of fitday.com or anything, it's great if you like to keep track of your foods, but it annoys me because it takes too long for me to add everything in it. On the other hand, you my benefit from using those free sites to help you gage where you are in your daily carbs, calories, fat, fiber, etc.
