    Day 11 of Induction

I have heard before that it's not so much the pounds you lose but the inches, which is another reason not to become a hostage to the scale. This has been true for me this week. I haven't lost anything, infact the 2 ounces that I was down from Sunday are back, I'm back to the weight I was on Sunday HOWEVER when I put on my pants this morning I'm down another notch on my belt. So here's my question... IF I'm losing inches... where are they going if I'm not losing pounds?

Have you checked your earlobes lately?

OK, so maybe not. But it's possible that weight is redistributing itself, or that you are replacing fat with muscle which takes up less space. To be honest, I've wondered the same thing, especially since I'm not doing a whole lot of weight training at the moment. But who am I to argue with the ole gift horse?

      Re: Inches VS Pounds

This is a central question to the Induction and early OWL.
I recently read in Men'sHealth magazine that muscle takes up 16% less space than fat. Aha! (Yes I believe everything I read lol.) So 150 lbs of fat takes up more space than 150 lbs of muscle, though in either case re: our bodies there is water and other stuff in there somewhere if I remember anything from Bio class.
Case 3 - me - I have lost only about 13 pounds since 6/15, down to 216, but I am working out a lot, and I am noticing measurements getting smaller. So I am more dense - in more ways than one! - with muscle, which I definitely have noticed.
I am happy with this trend. This is why Atkins said to include exercise in your new way of life. We want to tone up and be in shape, not just be bone skinny.
Well enough about me, how 'bout back to you guys?
Q: Are you happy that your pants are fitting better?
Q: And that your ear lobes are toned and splendid looking?
Maybe then let's go with it!
See you in the exercise Challenges.
BTW there has been a whole thread called something like 'the scale lies!' which you can follow.

I once knew a professional ballet dancer.... she was 5'7 and looked like a size 2, but she weighed close to 140 because she was solid muscle.

Well done Eric! There we have it, before and after pictures. While I don't try to examine too closely, I think my arse is finally trending toward the smaller example.

I had a personal trainer describe it this way.. 1 lb of fat = basketball 1lb of muscle = baseball

i want to be a base ball... thats my mantra !
