Re: Anyone sneak in some alcohol on induction?

I think it was deleted because it referred to drugs...is that not understandable? It could be taken in many contexts so I assume thats why it was removed.
There is a skinny girl inside me screaming to get out but the carbs wouldnt let her....I want to know what it feels like not to have to breathe in to look slimmer all the time...I want to breathe out and not look 6mths pregnant..

What did it say? I can't even remember, It couldn't have been that bad for crying out loud.

I've run community forums for more than a decade. You don't delete someone's post lightly or without an explanation.

You were sent a PM with an explanation, and if anyone repeats what you said, it will be deleted as well. We value any helpful posts that do not go against the TOS. We value all of our members too much to allow posts that do not conform to the TOS and cause the thread to be locked or deleted.

The OP asked an honest question and deserves to have viable suggestions and comments in reply.

Why would you want to do anything to potentially sabotage your weight loss effort? Is having a drink more important to you then losing weight and getting healthy? Those are the questions you have to ask yourself. If you aren't worried about delaying your weight loss or you aren't concerned that you are sabotaging your efforts or a drink is more important to you than losing weight and getting healthy, then you'll drink whether it delays your weight loss or not.
whoa! talk about judgemental. Just because someone has a drink, doesn't mean they care more about alcohol than getting healthy! In fact red wine has a lot of health benefits. Also, it isn't necessarily sabotaging for some people. For some people, starving themselves of certain things can lead to sabotage. If having a drink every once in a while, makes it so you can incorporate the diet into your life without growing resentment toward it, then so be it.

I enjoy having a drink with my boyfriend every now and again, especially on vacation or on a hot summer day. I understand that I will lose the weight more slowly, but it also allows me to not feel so restricted. I tried going about atkins without drinking at all. I sat at the bar drinking water on my friends' birthdays while everyone was having drinks, secretly cursing atkins on the inside, which ultimately lead to my demise. Eventually i thought "F this diet! I can't have any fun, I feel so restricted!!" and threw it out the window. I'm having a lot more success now, that I allow myself to have a drink from time to time, with the understanding that it'll just take me longer to get to my goal weight. I don't think Dr. Atkins would say that people who drink alcohol are sabotaging themselves, or choosing alcohol over health, i mean...there's an alcohol rung for crying out loud!

I think if you're an alcoholic and get the shakes when you don't drink, then that's all the more reason to NOT drink!!!

But honestly, I never really had any remarkable success -- until now, and this is the only time I've really kept it by the book.
So to answer your question, yes, I had results even when having some liquor, but I've had even better results when I avoid it.
I live in North America's party capital....it's hard to avoid alcohol when the bars are open 24 hours and there's always someone you know in town ready to party and have a few drinks. In the past it was hard to avoid, but like Megs said, this time I chose to put my health and weight loss above all. Now, I try my hardest to avoid going out to such events all together, I'd rather not have to deliberate over it. Although, I have told myself that if it came down to it, I would hold a cocktail glass with ice water and a straw and sip on that to fit in socially.
              Hope that helps?!
I definitely agree here...if you find that you cannot eliminate social drinking from your lifestyle, then cutting back and only doing it on special occassions is probably the best way to go. I used to go party every weekend...now my bf and i try to replace bar visits and drinking with activities like movie nights/baseball games. However, I allow myself to drink when the special occassion arrives, like vacation and friends' birthdays.

I wrote in one of the posts the amounts that have been shown to decrease cardiovascular risk factors. Anymore than those amounts have been shown to be detrimental to one's health.

As for alcohol consumption in general, this is the Induction forum. Dr. Atkins did write that alcohol consumption will slow down weight loss by delaying ketosis (fat burning). You have been on this Diet long enough to know that the first 14 days of this Diet is VERY important to how you will proceed with the rest of your Atkins. With that in mind, why would you want to do anything that will potentially screw up your results and therefore screw up how the rest of your Atkins will proceed?

There's nothing judgmental about giving sound advice.

I think it's very sound advice to tell someone they should avoid alcohol while on induction. You're right, induction is a VERY VERY important part of the diet. The part that I found judgemental was implying that someone drinking cares more about booze than their health. That's all.

Precisely! There is an alcohol rung... so it's well worth waiting until you get there to indulge. It doesn't take long to reach that rung.
