  • Tahini - DH wants to know if we can it

DH left me a message asking if we can have tahini (paste made from ground sesame seeds) during Induction. He found a recipe for a Moroccan chicken salad that he wants to try. I don't think we can have it, but I haven't come across anything that clearly says "NO." Does anyone know?

Seeds can be added in rung 3 - so no sesame seeds on induction.
Remember on induction to stick to the food listed. All the rest is not allowed (whether they are mentioned or not.)

Thanks. I didn't think so. I don't have access to my book, since I'm at work.

I'm thinking he can do something similar by seasoning the chicken with some cumin or adding some to the mayo.

I think he was planning on making our lunch for tomorrow. I made turkey chili last night. I think we'll have that for dinner.

Toasted sesame oil will give the food a sesame aroma and taste. It's also legal to have during Induction. You shouldn't cook with toasted sesame oil because it will lose all its flavor, but you can add it to salad dressings or drizzle it onto heated foods just before serving.

That sounds like a good idea. I'll let DH know.

Word of warning.....toasted sesame oil is potent! As little as a teaspoon can flavor a stir fry enough for 6 people. So don't use something like 1/2 cup of the stuff for a salad (unless you're planning on feeding ALOT of people with that salad lol)

If you want Chinese tasting food, just stir fry some fresh ginger sliced into thin rounds (remove the ginger---it's just there to flavor the stir frying oil) Cook your meat and veg in the ginger flavored oil. Then right before serving, sprinkle on the toasted sesame oil.

It's a great condiment to have....that and hot chili oil, which can also be found in the international section of most grocery stores.

I just told DH and he likes the sound of cooking with both the sesame and hot chili oils. Thanks so much for the tips.
