  • Eggs - To Yoke or Not to Yoke...That is the Question?

    Hi Gang!

I keep a journal of everything that I am eating and I noticed that the Eggs have about 15g of fat thats for 3 eggs. Is that too much? I mean I know the fat is definitely a good fat... should I remove the yokes or is that ok?

    Thanks and Goooooo Inductioners!

Very good stuff - eat it and enjoy. And eggs (yokes in particular) contains a whole host of essential nutrients. Actually the whites and the yoke compliment each other making an egg pretty much the perfect food. Who would dream about not eating the whole thing? (except those silly low fat people - who do not care about health and nutrients really)

I'll eat at least 6 eggs a day, sometimes raw. Yummy. If you put the numbers into fitday, they have the perfect percentage.

Not to be a downer, but how do they have the perfect percentage? They show as 5fat/6protein/1carb for 1 large egg. I thought the ratio was supposed to be 60/35/5 or there abouts. I love eggs, but they push my protein percentages so high I don't eat too many of them in a day.

One extra large comes out on fitday with 62% fat, 3% carbs, 34% protein.
We do eat protein on this diet. Loads of it. Well around 80-100 gr probably. I do not worry if I eat over 100 gr of protein a day (usually I eat about 90-100)- and that is quite a few eggs if I ate it all in eggs)

Weird... there must be a huge difference then between large and extra large eggs, because the large is almost even in terms of protein to fat ratio. I guess I need to buy bigger eggs!

              Thanks,

You're forgetting that each fat gram is 9 calories and each protein gram is 4 calories. That is why you can eat equal amounts of fat and protein in grams but the percentages will be about double for fat than for protein (the percentages are - percentages of daily calorie intake)

I didn't see if you are eating free-range eggs or even omega-3 'fortified' eggs. If not, find some in your area. They are more expensive, of course, but are better for you. Best of all, they taste like eggs are supposed to taste. We get ours at a local farm market and eat at least 2 dozen a week (3 of us).

the eggs from chickens raised on free range were much more nutritious --up to twice as rich in vitamin E, two to six times richer in beta carotene (a form of vitamin A) and four times richer in omega-3 fatty acids. And, the free-range eggs averaged only half as much cholesterol as the USDA data indicates for confinement-system eggs.

You're right... I was looking at it in terms of calories vs. grams. Silly me! Thanks for the education.

You know if you think about it... Eggs were meant to grow a baby chicken (or other bird if you so please) so the nutrients in that egg are the perfect amount of fat/protein/carbs to develop an "animal" That says a lot!

I try not to think about that part Steak, ham, eggs... it all came from a magical place that makes delicious food. No need to go into detail.

                            Great point, Bonnie Rose!

I eat 2-3 eggs for breakfast every day, and frequently have boiled eggs as snack. They've gotten a bad rap because of the whole "cholesterol" dogma. Eat eggs to satiety, as with other meats.
