Is pepperoni and other similar types of meats ok to eat if they say no carbs but include dextrose in the ingreidents?

  • #2
    Re: pepperoni?

With dextrose in the ingredients I would avoid them. The 'zero carbs' can be stated if they have less than 0.5 carbs per serving, and some companies make a very small amount be a serving exactly so they can state 'zero' in the numbers although they know we would usually eat much more than that as a norm.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Thank you! it does say trace carbs per 100g so would that be any better? Its really hard to find a deli meat without added ose or sugar isnt it?

i have them chopped on salads, and as snacks, port scratchings are very low carb as well, these are best when everybody is eating crisps

          Re: pepperoni?

I eat pepperoni sparingly, mainly because it always makes for an unpleasant BM a day later if overeaten! LOL.

Aside from the GI tract, I have not found pepperoni to be a problem although your mileage may vary.

Same answer -- watch your intake and check the nutrition info.

During our beach stay a few weeks back, the other families planed a hotdog night. My wife bought me Hebrew National franks which contain no sugar (Ingredients: beef, water, salt, contains 2% or less of spice, paprika, hydrolyzed soy protein, garlic powder, sodium erythorbate, sodium nitrite, flavorings.) and one carb gram per dog.

                    Re: pepperoni?

It is a processed meat, so it likely has a lot of sodium. I do pepperoni chips sometimes (nuked slices) as a treat, but would not do them regularly, especially during induction.

Moderation is the key, as it is with everything in any WOE. Sometimes you have to have some kind of indulgence. I would say, try a little and see what it does for you.

                    Best of luck!

                      Re: pepperoni?

If you buy pepperoni sticks, they often have 0 sugar and less sodium... i chop them up in my salad sometimes. My husband's Aunt works for O'Boy O'Berto, so I often use theirs, but whatever brand they sell at G.I. Joe's (if you have that where you live) doesn't have any sugar in it at all...
