I enjoy my morning cup of coffee. I use splenda(3 but will try 2 tomarrow) and 2tbsp half in half. I especially love my coffe more now with splenda nd real cream rather than sugar and light non dairy creamer

    Re: Coffee??

I have not given up coffee as of yet because it has not stalled me. Each person is different though. I also use splenda and heavy whipping cream instead of half and half. Half and half has milk in it and is not appropriate for induction. Maybe after induction I will add it in!

your limit on sweetners is three per day. when things are labeled as "lite" it usually has more carbs.

dr. atkins didn't say you had to give it up but you should heed what he did say about:

              Re: Coffee??

I am a big cofeeoholic. I drink 2-3 mugs of coffee a day. It keeps me alive! I will never consider giving up coffee. But...

Before I used to drink it with 2 Splendas and a looooot of cream. I used to put so much cream until my coffee was white! I was never measuring the cream. One day I did it and... I realised only the cream in ONE mug was aprox 15g glucides!!!!! Plus 2 Splendas (each 1g)...And multiply this by 2 or 3!

Now I drink my cofffe with only one Splenda and no cream at all. It makes 3g glucides per 3 mugs. It's ok.

Sometimes, in weekends or hollydays I offer myself a SPECIAL coffee with cream. But is rare and it should stay that way.

At the beginning I wasn't enjoy my coffee without cream and with only one Splenda. But in 3-4 days...your tongue gets so used to it, you think you've been drinking the coffee that way since eons... And when the time is comming to give yourself a 2 Splenda&cream one, you'll find it tooooooo sweet!

It's pretty cool that this all turns out to be a process of being honest with ourselves and learning about ourselves (and others). Too corny I know but hey.

                  Re: Coffee??

I gave up coffee and I drank buckets of it. (and diet Coke on top of that). Coffee for me trigger my snacking appetite. I want to eat sugar when I drink coffee - so it had to go. I have worked in some decaf now carefully.

                    Re: Coffee??

Omg I LOVEEEEE coffee... I used to drink at least 2-3 cups( huge mug fulls) of coffee before I would do anything in the morning. With tons of 1/2 n 1/2 and sweetnlow. Now I only have about 2 cups throughout the entire day. I will try the heavy cream today( I bet that is yummy) and now I use splenda(tastes morelike sugar )

I heard that for every cup of coffee you drink you should increase you water intake at least that much.. Is this true?

                      Re: Coffee??

No coffee is just very mild diuretic and will not cause dehydration. That is just a myth.

                        Re: Coffee??

Mmmm, its my favorite treat of the day! I drink it with heavy cream as well, 2 splendas and a dollop of homemade whipped cream. . . the best! Makes me feel like I'm getting a real dessert treat. I do limit it to one good sized mug a day, in the morning, a bit worried about calories. I did give up diet coke though. Seems to stall me for some reason. . .

                          Re: Coffee??

Just a reminder that several studies show that coffee raises blood sugar. On Atkins we eat fewer carbs and are careful with high glycemic food to make sure we do not get blood sugar spikes. So everybody should really think hard about it.

Here is one report on one of the latest studies
Coffee before breakfast cereal boosts blood sugar: study.

As Liv said, it is not a 'rule' according to DANDR but I do know that many people who struggle to drink water make themselves stick to that rule to make sure they get enough water in!!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
