Whole psyllium husk stirred into a glass of water is a great snack...also giving you one of the 8 glasses of water you need per day, plus it will help your digestion. It is all fiber so there are no net carbs.

Re: Good Snack
Uh, Gman.......why would I decide to have psyllum husks in an aqueous solution for a snack? What's wrong with my 3 cups of green leafies? No offense, but I would just prefer the water with air bubbles mixed in.
By the way, what the heck is psyllum husks? (I am from the city side of the Midwest)

You raise great questions. If you search for the husks under Portal / Search Forums in the ADBB, you'll see many discussions on the virtues, and alternatives such as flax seed -also recommended.
IMO getting a few more fiber grams for free is good.
Looking at it a a snack is better.
I just bought my second package so I'm hooked.
Can't say the same for pork rinds ... Great that there are choices ... I thought I would share this one with Induction-minded readers, and everyone else.240/231/198

Re: Good Snack
Just be sure you are drinking at the very least 64 fluid ounces of water daily. Fiber supplements like flax, psyllium husks and wheat bran are also known as "bulk forming laxatives". They perform their laxative duties by absorbing water, which causes them to swell. That "swelling" helps things move along----if you get what I mean. Conversely, if you don't drink enough water, these laxatives may potentially "plug things up" because there isn't enough liquid for them to absorb.~Megs~

Re: Good Snack
I admire anyone who can get a glass of water with psyllium powder in it down without gagging!
When I needed the extra fibre I used to mix them with my mayo and chopped celery snack. Could hardly taste them.Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
Check out our Low Carb Recipes website and add to it!!

Re: Good Snack
Yeah, well.....that's good advice. But, I think I will continue to drink my usual three rounds of 1 liter Smart Water bottles and maybe chew the bark off of one of the trees in my backyard (sorry...just kidding).
Again, thanks for the input!!

Re: Good Snack
Thanks Megs, I'm drinking 72 oz with the help of the water challenge. I've found for me the husks seem to make a positive difference for digestion -even with the 3+ cups of salad/veggies I'm getting- which is 'a good thing' as M Stewart might say... lol.240/231/198

OMG that is brilliant... I too like the idea of fiber as a snack, but cannot stomach a chunky gritty drink.
Gman... I like your thinking outside the box approach... I wish it would work for me!

Re: Good Snack
Does anyone remember the pseudo-juice mix called Tang? It was considered rather space age when I was a kid. Anyhoo, sugar-free Metamucil (not so much the cheaper store brands) tastes just like the stuff! So maybe with the next dose I'll try to consider it a snack instead of a necessary evil :P Maybe.

Re: Good Snack
Put them in a coffee grinder and grind until fine to reduce the grittiness.
If you do a search in the Recipe forums, Naja posted a recipe for psyllium pancakes that supposedly look and taste exactly like regular flour pancakes.~Megs~

Re: Good Snack
Thanks Megs ... the coffee grinder could help those who can't deal with the grittiness.
The thought of pancakes right now seems unbelievable to me ... but I trust you - I will give it a shot some time soon.
BTW still finding this to be a good snack - husks in water no-lol. Six hours like an evening is a long time without eating, and while broccoli, turkey, etc. are great snacks also, the husks with water are also working.240/231/198
