  • Is this the induction flu?

I'm about at the end of the 14-day induction, and am feeling queasy! I never(rarely) get sick. Two nights ago, I woke up in the middle of the night with horrible heartburn and had to go vomit! The past day or so, I've been feeling queasy and nauseated off and on. I also woke up with a metallic taste in my mouth this morning. If I didn't know better, I'd think I was pregnant!

What is the induction flu, what causes it, and how long does it last?

    Thanks!

Induction flu is a malady you get as your body is changing from burning carbs to burning fats for energy. You would have experienced that in the first few days. Once you are in ketosis, you should not experience it.

No clue on what your malady actually is, but I hope you feel better soon.

Could it be that I am just now going into ketosis? At about 2 weeks? Maybe it takes some of us longer than others? Otherwise I don't know what this is, maybe the salsa I ate was bad...but stuff like that doesn't usually affect me; I have a cast-iron stomach after years of eating like a cow, I guess! And I KNOW I'm not pregnant!

That sounds unlikely, if you kept your carbs under 20 for the two weeks, I feel certain you hit ketosis some time back. You aren't that much bigger than me by the way. It has never taken me longer than 3 days to reach lipolysis. Not suggesting size affects that, Dr. Atkins suggests you will reach lipolysis in the first few days as long as you are consuming enough fat.

What have you been eating, and have you read the book?

Well, the metallic taste sounds like ketosis, but you should have noticed this long before now, usually within the first few days if you're following the induction rules correctly.

I would think it's something else, because I've never heard of anyone actually getting sick to the point of vomiting from Induction Flu. Hope you feel better soon.

Yes, I ordered the book from Amazon.com, but it hasn't arrived yet.

So maybe it was just the salsa. Who knows? But it's two days later and I still feeling queasy. Hope it's not that salmanella that was going around, from the green peppers from Mexico!

Or maybe I haven't been eating enough fat...still in the habit of trying to avoid it, perhaps.

I get a metallic taste anytime I am close to losing my lunch. Nausea does that to me every time.
