  • Lost 3 one day, gained 1.5 next day!!!

I know I should not be weighing every day. As a matter of fact, I started on Sunday, and did not weight until Wed. I had lost 3 lbs. Well, the next day, I weighed again (same time), and I had gained 1.5 lbs! I was so upset! The only reason I weighed again was because I thought for sure that I had lost more because my belly was shrinking, and my clothes were feeling a little more lose. I was suprised to see I had gained.

Weight loss a second (or actually mabye a third) time around is definitely slower. I am trying to go by the book, and cooking recipes off of here. I was drinking diet drinks almost every day, but cut that out yesterday, and I did eat some sugar free jello, but also cut that out. Hopefully will see quicker results soon.

This is the main reason we suggest that you should not weigh yourself at all during your first 14 days on induction :nono

Your weight fluctuates every day depending on so many factors that it is really counterproductive to weigh every day unless you are firmly convinced that this WOE (way of eating) works and can therefore regard weight gains and losses as 'interesting' but not likely to upset you.

For instance I do weigh every day and personally find it fascinating to see a bounce of maybe up to 5 pounds up and down fairly often during the weeks. As long as over each month there is a gradual drift downwards or at least a steady 'holding pattern' I know I am doing things right and just keep on keeping on.

BUT I have a fairly laidback attitude to the way this weight is leaving my body. I have no set time schedule for losing weight and am happy to let my body get there in its own time. If my weight goes up for no apparent reason I do not doubt the WOE and give in to binging or non-Atkins eating.

If you are likely to feel upset at a scale shift upwards DONT WEIGH UNTIL DAY 15!!!! :cop

And thereafter fix on one specific time no more than once a week to weigh yourself.

There is an exellent posting from Moochicat explaining the ups and downs of weightloss here

Read through that and hopefully it will make you less panic-ed by a gain. :hug

And another thought for both of you.

You both wrote that you thought you must have lost weight because you felt slimmer or clothes were feeling looser.
That is because you are getting smaller :joy
Yes - you are losing fat :icondance

Muscle weighs more than fat so if you are eating your Atkins and exercising you are losing fat and gaining muscle! And the good news - muscle burns more calories too!

In the long run no-one will know how much you weigh unless you tell them whereas everyone will notice your toned sleeker bodies.

Make sure you measure yourself so you can see this change in yourselves.

Now after me say this mantra:
Scales are bad - tapes are good
Scales are bad - tapes are good
Scales are bad - tapes are good
Scales are bad - tapes are good

              Hi :wave
Scales are evil and should be destroyed, now banish yours to closet somewhere and remember weightloss is more than a reading on one of those demonic little monsters

The tape measures are great - just be sure you don't become a measuring tape addict as opposed to a scale addict. Remember to always consider how you feel emotionally as well as physically and that this WOL works wonders for both, with or without the above mentioned tools.

Higgies and I used to do a weekly scale reading when I was here on another name. It kept us focused on losing weight without having to step on the scale every single day, it helps a lot and you see the results every week on the same day and same time! ^_^ Perhaps I can start up the challange again once I finish my 14 day induction. I'll have it posted in the other induction forum and we'll go from there! Just keep on being focused! :hug

The best thing you can do for yourself is stop the weighing. Its alot of unnecessary pressure and can negatively affect your progress. Its a trap we all fall into at one time or another but usually find does us no good. Weight can vary for any number of reasons. I found especially in the beginning my water consumption resulted in bloating which caused an extra pound or two for a few days. After it seemed my body got used to it and flushed quite a bit of pounds very rapidly.

Drinking a lot of water can be really hard, but you can regulate the intake you take during the day. For me, I take around 4 cups in the morning, depending on if I am working, if not, normally 2 and spread it out evenly during the day! Water is muy importante and you'll see the pounds shed off faster than you know it! Be sure to take your multivitamins, etc.

Thank you guys for all your help. I will not weigh for at least a week, but I am feeling a little discouraged today. I'm just not losing like I used to, and I am a little worried.

I'm afraid that the months ahead that I will still be the same weight. I will admit I got off of the diet a little today, I had some chinese, but just the meat, even though I ate to much, and I drank a diet coke. I'm feeling like I am failing, and I've hardly started. I'm even running out of cooking ideas. I don't have a lot of money, and that's what happened last time, I got bored. I have been using a lot of the induction recipes off of this site, but have not found any I really care to make again because I was not to crazy over them.

This time after my induction is over, I probably should move on to the second part of the diet so I won't be to bored. Just thought I'd let you guys know how things are going. I do appreciate all of your help.

                            No nonononono!!

You are so not failing! You are human! It's ok. I agree that you probably need a little more variety in your way of eating after the first 14 days, and there is nothing at all wrong with that.

Eat what you like that is induction friendly, even if you eat the same omlette everyday for the next 6 months (like I do).

Look for recipes in the recipe section and see what suits you that includes induction-friendly foods. I don't even like meat that much and I've been doing this for 6 months. You can do it. Just stick to the plan and know that at least you didn't eat the chinese noodles and a real Coke.

                            Hang in there! {{{sexy}}}
