  • Question

Just curious, what type of eating would throw one out of ketosis? Would it be just a little "cheat", innocent perhaps, or would it have to be an all-out carb. binge? And then, would one be required to start all over again, or what? Thanks.

    Re: Question

On day 15 I cheated and had an in and out burger. And that alone almost thru me out of ketosis. I was testing at 40-80 ketone range, then after the the cheat, i went down to 15 low ketone range. I wouldnt cheat again!! I believe that cheat meal made me slow down my weight loss, since i've only lost 1lb in 5 days since it happened. Prior to that I was losing 1lb every 2 or 3 days.

The amount of carbohydrate a person can eat and still lose weight is a highly individual thing. Dr. Atkins called it the "Critical Carbohydrate Losing Level" (CCLL). For some people that level is as low as 20 net carbs daily. For others it's about 50 net carbs daily. And for the lucky few, it can be over 90 net carbs daily.

But here's the catch: You don't know what your CCLL is until you are in OWL Phase. Until you know what your CCLL is, no one can tell you if a "little cheat" or a "carb binge" will throw you out of ketosis.

        Re: Question

And that is one of the reasons that it is so important to get through OWL before you are at your final 10 lbs and should be in pre-maintenance. My Dr., who lost 150 lbs on Atkins told me that. If you get to only 10 lbs left to lose and then go into maintenance, you have NO CLUE how many carbs to eat... He did that and essentially had to start completely over to figure it out
