  • Not eating enough...

Just wondering what happens if you are in ketosis but not eating enough food in general.....well i guess this isnt too too low in calories, but fitday is calculating 1588 and that is a HIGH estimate....i'd personally guess more like 1300...but i also went to the gym for an hour and walked around the mall for 2 hours. i feel alright....i honestly am just not hungry. will something bad happen if i don eat more? my proportions are good: 6% carbs (would be lower if i subtracted fibre), 65% fat 29% protein....just that i think my net calories for the day are much lower than they were before i started atkins.

    anyone else experiencing this?

Yeah this same thing happened to me and it took me a while to figure out why my weightloss was stalled. I wasn't consuming enough calories. If you're not consuming enough food your body will go into starvation mode.

What are your stats? 1300 calories sounds awful low, at least it's too low for me and I'm 5'2" and weight 177. Here's a helpful calculator that will help you figure out how many caloreis you should be consuming in order to survive and avoid putting your body into starvation mode: BMR Calculator

Well, not eating enough fat could stall your weight loss. You need to eat enough fat in order to stay in ketosis.

I'm not 100% sure about calories. I know it's common to consume fewer calories once you're in ketosis (as your appetite decreases) but I've never heard anything about a specific number.

Lipolysis (and therefore ketosis) is based on the ratio of fat to carbohydrate.
