  • Ice cream on Induction!!!

    Hi all, :joy :joy

Yesterday I decided to go to the supermarket to scour the aisles for some low/no-carb foods I can eat on induction. I gave up the sugar-free jello and diet pepsi because I was scared I would stall.
I ended up finding some great food.

Originally, I went looking for Jello's newest product. Its sugar-free jello pudding made with splenda. It must be too new because I didn't see it. What I did see was :icondance Breyers no-carb ice cream made with splenda. :icondance It has 3 net carbs in a half of cup. I actually jumped for joy when I spotted this. I read the ingredients to make sure I wasn't being fooled and I'm not its good to go. I took a spoonful when I got home to taste it and you wouldn't even know the difference it taste great.

Also I found Carb-free yogurt. it was made by Light and fit carb control and it is also made with splenda. It comes in 4 individual packs and has 3 net grams of carbs in each pack. I bought the peaches and cream and it taste great.

I also found Hellmans carb options low calorie ketchup. less than 1 gram of carbs per serving and its also made with splenda. You have to be careful with this because 1 tbsp is a serving.

I found Wishbone Carb option Blue cheese dressing made with splenda. This one is 0 carbs and splenda is the last ingredient on the list. So you can splurge with this one.

So for dinner tonight I had hot wings with my bluecheese dressing, a couple of meatballs dipped in ketchup and some spinach leaves. For a snack I indulged in a half a cup of ice cream and half a pack of yogurt. approx 9 net grams of carbs. Today was a good day.

Also, I am still losing down another pound since yesterday. I like this diet and to think I was going to quit 2 days ago.

Remember on induction you are limited to 2 tbsp of cream. That means the ice cream and yogurt are for when you get to the dairy rung of OWL.

Also, double check your ingredients in these products. Do you see any sugar alcohols? Do you see glycerin? These things are not on the acceptable food list for induction.

It is not no more ever. It just needs to wait until you get to the dairy rung. It is the 2nd rung, so you get to it pretty quickly when you move to OWL.

          Hi Sweety,

I hate to burst your bubble and please understand I mean this out of love and support but you're sabotaging yourself.

There is no shortage of low carb, carb free and sugar free food products out there - it's a booming multi billion dollar industry, so yeas, you can find just about anything these days that are low carb variations on the real thing

These foods are not acceptable on Induction and will have a dire effect on the long term success of this WOL

          Why?

Because there's much more to Atkins than just losing weight, it's critical to break through cravings and let your body adjust to a new way of eating.

It's critical to let your taste buds rediscover the natural sweetness of foods that they have long been numb to.

And it's critical that you take those foods out of your home and do a clean, by the book induction - or make no mistake, you will fail just as I did.

Induction is difficult and it's hard, we have to tough it out - period.

Years ago when I was on Atkins low carb foods didn't really exist and the ones that did had to be ordered from special, hard to find sources. I had been on induction for weeks and weeks, I had 100 pounds to lose. I started with the low carb bars and sweets and treats and replacement foods. Long story short I drifted back into my old way of eating, gained back the 40 pounds I lost and put on an additional 30.

I urge you...don't make the mistake I did. These foods will trigger your desire for more. And it won't happen over night, but slowly almost without notice and when you do notice? you'll find yourself right back where you started.

My advice to you is to get rid of the ice cream and all the rest of these low carb alternatives immediately. You can have them at some other point in your life, maybe OWL maybe not, but that's all in the future so why think about it now?

Instead think about giving yourself the best possible chance for success right now - and again, this means a clean by the book induction. Not just to lose weight, you have got to understand that's not the key role of induction. Induction is to kick your body into a fat burning machine through switching into a state of Ketosis and equally important overcoming the cravings and food addictions that got us so fat in the first place - which simply can't be done with the foods you're choosing to eat.

So again, I really do urge you to think about this, think about what you want and how hard you're willing to work for it. Think about a lifetime of being thin and healthy, read the list of acceptable foods on Induction over and over, tape it to your fridge and memorize it if you have to do (that's what I have to do)

and do yourself a favor, get those foods, the ice cream the ketchup, the Jell-O, and whatever else you bought out of the house as soon as you can.. as in right now.

          Peter ha

EXCELLENT Post Peter, and thank you so much for your testimony.

While I know some members use low carb products, I try to stay away from them because I'm afraid I will lose control or drift back to my old way of eating... which is so easy to do I'm afraid.

There's a reason I'm here... I'm fat from eating way too much and eating foods that aren't good for me. I want to break the habits that put me almost 200 pounds overweight, so I go to the extreme and eat only induction sound foods (well why I was in induction). I try to keep my foods as natural and close to the source as possible.

            Thanks again Peter.

              Okay Peter :sadblinky ,

Thank you. I am making great progress and I don't want to risk messing up induction. I'll get back on track today and eliminate these low carb items. I'll give them to my mom she doesn't need to lose weight but she is a diabetic. Does this mean I'm starting over again??? :yikes

                Sweetie, :wave

Aaaaw don't feel bad! there no mistakes just happy accidents don't know where I heard that but isn't it awful! lol

Look kiddo, we all make these kinds of mistakes, believe me I'm the king of them. You don't have to start all over just start new and fresh, I think that's a better way to look at things. Giving that food to your mom is GREAT idea I gave away everything from bags of potato chips to boxes of Pasta

                Outta sight..outta mind..outta mouth...outta tummy!

Don't and worry, if you stay the course and do this correctly that 20 pounds is going to be gone very quickly and you'll have the knowledge you need to keep it off forever. There's no doubt in my mind you can do this so there shouldn't be one n yours either.

Oh if I only had 20 pounds to lose!

                Peter : )

Wow, Peter, you're such a great writer and truely inspiring. I'm very interested in reading what you have to say and I remember exactly how I was before when I fell off the wagon. It's tough to get back on, but when you're on it, falling off the wagon will be hard, if you know what to do. Thanks a lot for being inspiring and writing on this board, it makes being here more enjoyable!

I agree, though, just give away all that stuff to your mother, and then once you get to OWL, you get to start, gradually, adding stuff onto your WOE every day. Slowly, though, because if you do it really fast, you'll gain those pounds right back and not manage to keep the weight off. That's how my mom does it. She weighs 125 pounds now and did a really good job. I guess as you get older, you gain more intelligence and can keep away from cravings a bit more. (Except for my dad. -cough cough- Hypocrite...) But, I admire my mom, so I can have someone close to me be my rolemodel while I am losing weight.

I agree with what others have said, and wil add one more thing.

You mentioned "Wishbone Carb option Blue cheese dressing".

There are some processed foods that are naturally low carb. It drives me nuts that manufacturers still make low carb versions, and that people buy them. These inevitably both taste worse and cost more than the regular ones.

Anyway, blue cheese dressing is one of these. (Alfredo sauce is another classic example). It's basically blue cheese, sour cream, garlic, and mayo. So enjoy the real thing. Toss the Carb Option bottle, and try Marie's (in the refrigerated case next to the produce). It's a perfectly legal induction indulgance. Enjoy!

Naturally Fresh is another good blue cheese option. I used to eat marie's all the time, but I found for some reason the naturally fresh seems to go further. They are the same price and next to each other in the refrigerated section.

no you don't have to start over you just hold tight cause you may get some cravings and some intestinal discomfort from the ice cream.

Your total 14 day weight loss numbers may be skewed and not reliable for calculating your CCLL noryour metabolic resistnace rate but you will still be in ketosis and fat burning in the norming.

All inductees can use their cream allowance in chapter 11 of DANDR and make ziplock baggie icecream. SInce it doesn't keep well as it gets brick hard only make it a serving at a time and you will spend 20 min getting some exercsie too while you make your icecream shaking those ziplock bags to churn your ice cream.

                        Happy low carbing

Cravings and discomfort....both of these are ho so true! I was up to Dairy Rung and was including cottage cheese and Breyers lo-Carb Ice cream and was starting on the yogurt.

The cottage cheese and ice cream really triggered sweet cravings, which I never had before...didn't want to and couldn't just have that 1/2 a cup of ice cream. Some weight went back on (had been at goal) and the intestinal discomfort was awful...thought I was going to die!!!!

It won't be the same for everyone, but I learned my lesson. I went back on induction for a little bit to straighten myself out and will be reading more so I don't screw up OWL again...or my insides :nod
