  • so tired - advice please

    Hi there
I have been on Atkins Induction for 9 days and have lost 2.5kgs and 2cm each of hips, waist, tummy..however...I woke up this morning and the day before exhausted. I felt I had run a marathon - every part of my body feels heavy and sore and I could carry on sleeping for hours. This seems to pass as the morning wears on (perhaps eating breakfast has something to do with feeling better).
Please could you let me know if this is normal. I drink 1.5 litres of water a day and I take a magnesium/calcium powdered supplement most mornings. I usually have low blood pressure too and I have noticed in the Atkins Diet book that the plan lowers your blood pressure. Could mine be too low and if so how do I rectify this on the eating plan?
    Apologies for the long post
    Thanks a million

Read page 140, sometimes the process goes too fast and a person needs to add a few carbs temporarily. You might need to eat some extra veggies or even nuts for a day or two, in the case of this extreme fatigue, that would not be a cheat. Dr. Atkins explains that in some cases you need to slow the loss and while your body would probably adjust, no need to feel like crud in the meantime!

Induction has such a strong effect on me, I have to add almonds. I know some people really need a clean induction, but adding almonds with my breakfast each day really helps stave off the kinds of problems you are describing. I have not found this addition to significantly slow my weightloss, and the added nutrients are extremely needed. The low blood pressure causes really bad migraines for me....
Hang in there and don't be afraid to tweak things just a little.

Post your menu in the "Review My Menu" Forum

Sometimes, newbies have this strange idea to eat as close to 0 net carbs as possible or they have an equally strange idea to eat only lettuce. So post your menu and let the folks there review it.

I have the same things happen to me. I would add some carbs back ina dn wait...but if you get 2 months in like me and still have these problems - then you might need to see your doc. My blood pressure runs low too. When I add back in carbs I stop loosing. or I am jsut far to impatient to be loosing .6 of a pound veery 2 weeks! I have done really well with loosing - but I am tired and fatigued all the time. I am seeing our doc next week to have my thyroid and adrenals checked out.

Thanks so much for your reply - I simply wouldn't cope for 2 months feeling as fatigued as I have been...I hope your doc can shed some light! Good Luck L

I felt so good for the first week so its nice to know someone else had this strange experience! I'm adding the nuts! A few almonds just might do the trick. Have a great week-end! L

thanks so much for your advice...it seems to me that nuts for a couple of days as a small tester is a good idea. I'll report back soon! L

Re: so tired - advice please

hi there...and haha!! No ways! Living on lettuce as my only carb would be a killer! I love food! Here is a sample of my menu plan (yesterday)
B/fast - 3 eggs scrambled with chives, 3 mushrooms and half a small red onion
snack - 2 pieces of endive with philadelphia cream cheese
Lunch - cold meat slices, cheese and 2 cherry tomatoes
Dinner - shepherd's pie (minced beef, 1/2 red pepper, onion topped with creamed califlower puree)
snack (felt so bad) 1 flat teaspoon on unsweetened (bitter) cocoa powder with a few drops of sugar substitute, 15gms single cream and hot water!!

I know its not a perfect Induction menu but I've been so tired...I'm sure the nuts are a healthier alternative so that's what I'll be doing today.

Re: so tired - advice please

OOOh man this is exactly me -- what you have described but I didnt link it to low blood pressure...but I do have low blood pressure normally so maybe it is getting even lower!

I have done what the other posters have said to prevent this from happening cuz the last time it happened when I was on Atkins I couldnt continue cuz I was so scared that it would happen again but my symptoms were severe and i have five kids to take care of...symptoms were heart beating fast, trouble walking, major exhaustion, i felt like I couldnt make a fist, just an all over major weak feeling.

This time i've added in another cup of salad, and 20 almonds which seems so far to have helped greatly. I never want to feel like that again. So far I have lost 4 kilos and this is day 8...I wasnt supposed to get on the scale this morn but i just wanted to take a peek and i have lost another kilo. So it is working fine for me.

You just have to tweak it to where you are feeling well and losing weight...So good luck!
