  • 1st day - 2nd time

    Hi all -

Made it through my 1st day, the 2nd time. I tried this WOE back in January and gave up after day 4. But I can't take it anymore. I'm tired of carrying this extra weight around, being healthy and comfortable is all that I think about so I figured I better do something about it. I went shopping and am 100% prepared this time. Need to stay strong!!

Hang in there, you can do it! I find days 3 and 4 the hardest. If you can make it past day 4, you should have it made. Don't forget to read all the stickys in all the forums, they are a wealth of info and will keep you on the right track

      Welcome back to Atkins!

Great advice from full-wit about the sticky's!! :yes

Keep in your mind that in order to make progress, you've just got to tough it through the first few yukky days when your body is going through withdrawal. I promise you that once Induction Flu is over, it's over and done with!! and you'll feel like yourself again, only better!

My first day of Atkins was also my first day of my period :yikes and I was still feeling awful on day 7. I questioned what I was doing, but as Dr. Atkins asks us "Just give me two weeks." I had pledged to do it at least that long. At the end of the two weeks I felt absolutely normal again, and I was down 8 pounds! :icondance

So when you have a low moment, tell yourself that you've just got to give it two weeks :hug

        Hi NikeGirl

        Welcome back to Atkins!

I absolutely understand the feeling of just not being able to live in an unhealthy overweight body any longer. Having been there and back, like you I was on Atkins years ago I lost 40 pounds, was feeling the best I had in years and slowly began to drift away from this WOL (way of life)

The end result? I put back the 40 pounds I lost plus an additional 30

The lesson? I never...ever want to do this to myself again, I finally understand that this a way of live, a profound change in the way we eat and view ourselves. And it isn't easy it takes work and determination. Having made this great step of coming to the board and posting is wonderful. It's the perfect first step.

As long as you have the 2002 version of the book "Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution" known around here as DANDR do a clean Induction and use the support system in place for you right here on this site you will succeed.
        • Without the book, there's no way to fully understand the principles of this WOL that make it work for the long run - for your lifetime and without it failure is virtually guaranteed.

If you have the new version treat it like your friend, you're personal Bible, use it, read it...read chapters that impress you or fascinate you over and over.

I think it boils down to this, you already know what life is like feeling fat and unhealthy, you and I and the other folks here, we all know about body shame and low self esteem as a direct result to both our weight and our addictions to carbs and sugar.

The opportunity to reinvent yourself, and to improve your physical and emotional health is right here and right now. You never have to back to that slow death way of eating again - ever.

Tough our Induction and do the first two weeks as clean and as by the book as possible, don't sabotage yourself. This is a second chance really, much as it is for me and countless others - and second chances don't come around that often so. So grab onto this one and don't let go. You're not alone in this and most of all if you want it, if you want a life of feeling great and being thin - it's yours for the asking. So like Nike says "Just Do It" and never forget, all the support and encouragement you need (and who doesn't) is right here on this board.

Oh, you are getting so much good advice, sweetie! I know the first few days can be really hard and make you feel kind of icky. It's the carb demons crying out to be fed! But, don't give up to them! Don't let them win this battle! :guns

Try staying busy. Do you have a hobby? Take a walk, exercise is great for the mind, body and spirit. Pick up the phone and talk to a friend. Keep coming back to ADBB. Read and re-read DANDR. Go shopping and look at clothes in a smaller size ......... because soon you'll be able to fit into them!

Be sure to drink plenty of water. That's very important! :yes

Stay strong!! That was the last two words in your post. Let that be your mantra over the next few days. Positive self-talk works wonders.
            YOU CAN DO IT!!!

Thanks everyone for the good advice and encouragement. Day 2 is going well. Feel a little drained though. Went to my nephew's wrestling tournament out of town but was well prepared. Took ham slices, salad and celery sticks with bottled water. Though my nieces and nephew did get into my celery sticks (they love raw veggies and dip), I packed extra because I knew they would want to eat it with me :yes :yes
