hello everyone! well i have gone back in the forum and read some of the older questions posted and peoples comments. i think this is a great site! i wanted to say how great i think it is the way all of u help each oter out!
well ok now to my other point..i have been dieting for the last4/5months..i only had a total fo 25lbs or so to lose and ive lost quiet a bit. i only have the last 10 pounds to go i think..but the thing is i hate reached a plateau. and well i thought that doing the atkins induction phase might be a good way to jump start the weight loss again. i have also done some research and have seen recomendations for doing this to lose the last 10 lbs...i have seen places where they said do the atkins induction program for a week.. but im thining about continuing until the 18th of march (since i have a ball that day that i have to attend). well i just wanted peoples stories about how much they lost in teh induction phase. and well general info that might be useful ..well maybe stories about ur induction phase. oh and btw since i only have about 10 lbs to lose do u think my weight loss will be less than someone who has more weight to lose? thank u for ur patience( i realise this has been a very long post!)

    Hi lost10Pounds

    Welcome!

Congratulations on your weight loss, plateaus are a reality that effect us all and in that regard Atkins is like any other "Diet" But any similarity between Atkins and any other way of eating or diet ends right there.

The information you hear about doing Atkins to get rid of a few extra pounds, jump start another diet or guarantee that you'll reach a specific goal within a certain time frame is false and misleading.

If you have 10 or 200 pounds to lose, Atkins is a WOL (way of life) One that not only results in dramatic weight loss but improved your overall health on every possible level.

You can't start and stop any aspect of any eating program, and you certainly will be undermining your success if you do Induction for two weeks - and then go back to your former way of eating.

Because you've already poked around this board a bit - which is great! The next step for you would be to pick up a copy of the 2002 version of the book "Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution" known around here as DANDR.

Once you understand, the phases of this WOL you'll not only be ready to make some profound changes for this upcoming event in March, but for the rest of your life. Long after your memories of that special event have faded Atkins will keep improving your overall health and well being - and keep you thin to boot!

But again, Atkins is not a quick fix, nothing is. It's the failure to understand that concept that keeps people on a diet roller coaster their entire lives, losing and gaining, losing and gaining. It's an endless viscous cycle.

My suggestion to you would be get the book - read it, post here as much as you want and if you decide to make a commitment to yourself for the long run, for the rest of your life then doing Induction will be a wonderful and empowering experience for you. And of course all the support you'll need is right here on this board 24/7 365 days a year, we never close!

Welcome to Atkins and the Booard. We are glad you found us and look forward to getting to know you.
Atkins is not a diet but a way of eating for life. It also cannot be used as a quick fix. Many of us have lost 10 in induction, but only those of us who had a large amount to loose. Having only 10 to loose you many only loose 1 or2. It is my hope that when you see how easy and satisfying this way is you will choose to stick with it. For just a simple quick fix you may need another plan.

Also the last few pounds are said to be the hardest to lose.

As Lauren said, most people can expect to lose 5-10% of the weight they need to lose during Induction. For a person with 100 pounds to lose, that's 5-10 pounds. For a person with 10, that's 1/2 pound to 1 pound.

If the diet you are currently on has been successful for you thus far, I would advise you to stick with it, because it obviously works for you.

As Peter wrote, plateaus are common during weight loss programs. The way to beat one is to stick to your program. Really focus on your exercise and be strict about your diet. When your body is ready to start losing again, it will.

thank you guys so much! i guess you guys have made a very valid point. int his case i might try to opt for atkins as a wol..the induction phase and getting the body to burn fat/ketosis seems to make a lot of sense..most importantly i always have a problem controlling my blood sugar levels. its all over the place. and sometimes even though if im nto hungry i end up eating dried fruits and other things which are high in sugar.
other than that does anyone have any quick fix ideas lol?.i mean thigns not related to atkins..i might be wiling to try that out until the 18th of march ad hten start atkins right after that.

This forum focusses on the first 14 days of Atkins, so you may want to ask that question in the Low Carb Other Than Atkins Forum.

The problem with 'quick fixes' is that if they do work, they usually reverse themselves pretty quickly.
I wish I had a magic wand for you, but if I did, I'd use it on myself!!! :yes

Now if you want a quick fix for your blood sugar atkins can help. Many find stable bllod sugar quickly. I did.
