  • A second chance?

    Hello everyone.

I'm sure I've talked to some of you before but I started out in January 2008 I believe it was and I lost around 50 pounds by the middle of May. I had ankle surgery at just over the half-way point of May and after the surgery it was too hard for me to keep on this WOE (or so I told myself). I'm about recovered from the surgery and I'm walking "BETTER" but I have to take it easy (no repetitive activities for 6 months) until the cartilage they are growing, grows.

So here I am..3 moths later and I wonder, "Could I be up to 75+lbs of weight lost?". I had to have surgery but the basic steps are over. I have since then gained 35 of the 50 lbs back and I know I need to get back to this WOE (but with my wife this time). The problem is that I just don't have the motivation like I had before.. I know nobody can do it but myself but I think getting on here again and browsing around was a first step. Posting is now my second step.......

    What do you all think?

    Re: A second chance?

I think you can do it! Sure it is hard but you are worth it. How great that your wife is joining that will help.

There is a Second Time Around Club here. You may join them to get some further hints of how to deal with getting back into the game the second time.

Welcome back! You do it one day at a time. Sometimes one minute at a time. Fake it 'til you make it. You can do it!!!

        Re: A second chance?

I lost 100 lbs 7 years ago and maintained for 5 years. Then i had two pregnancies back to back and gained, gained, gained.....I'm working my way back down. From my highest (Which is when I was full term with my twins) I am now down 76lbs (25 on Atkins) and I have another 31 to go to make my goal. So when I get to goal I will have lost over 100lbs - again. I swear I am done with the bouncing. If we have any more children I am simply not making the mistake of letting food rule my life. I have spent my life living to eat....I have decided it's NOT WORKING! I am going to start living for life and eating to live. Atkins has absolved my cravings.

You are right - only you can make this happen. We are here for you and it CAN be done!

        Hugs,

          Re: A second chance?

Thank you for the responses. This forum is the main reason I succeeded in losing 50lbs the first time around! I now feel really fat and unhealthy again.. I need to weigh myself and see how much i've gained back tomorrow morning. I started out at 375 then I dropped to the 323 area before that darn surgery!

I recall making a post just before the surgery and telling the people of this forum how I was afraid that I was going to go off of the diet due to the surgery... :: this is really hard for me to even consider going back on the diet. My wife won't go on a diet with me... she tried Atkins and cheated on the FIRST DAY and lied the rest of the week! Some people never grow up I guess.

I believe that I can do this alone it is just a huge hassle when you and your wife have to eat different meals...we did it before but all I heard was complaining!

I just need to let this come to me like it did last time... I'm the type of person that needs to surround myself with things that I'm tryin to accomplish (talking with friends that are dieting, working out etc..) and I know just how priceless this place actually is!

Thank you all for your support and I look forward to getting back on the diet soon! Hopefully I'll be ready by, say the first of Sept..

For some reason I'm weird as in when someone *tells* me to do something I don't want to do it because it wasn't my idea...!! I hate that about me but my surgeon told me that I need to lose some weight and I think that's why I don't want to do it. Like I said, I'm strange!

          Thanks for listening
