  • getting worried...

I've been trying to have an optimistic attidute about doing atkins, but its getting hard. I don't feel much different, and I don't look different. Some days I have energy (actually, that only happend for 2 days) and the rest of the days I just feel...blah. No extra energy, but not extremely fatigued either. Today is day 6 of induction, so i'm still a beginner. From what I've seen of myself in the mirror, I look the same.

Am I hoping for too much too soon?

I read posts about ppl losing 5-7 lbs in their first week, and I doubt I've lost any. I have this gut feeling I havent lost any inches either. I'm going to weigh and measure myself on day 8, after a week of doing Atkins. I doubt I'll see any change, but I'll post up what I find out on Tuesday.

Good luck to the rest of you.

You need to hang in there. Just so you know, I was one who did not lose during induction. Not one pound. I did lose inches, and that did help to keep me going.

With 18 poinds to go, the good doc would estimate 10% being lost in the first 2 weeks, or just under 2 pounds. More than that you are working on bonus weight. That is one of banes of being close to goal -- the weight simply doesn't melt off as quick as those with 100 or 200 (like myself) to go. Give it time, you still could be dealing with extended induction flu which can sap your energy levels. How tall are you? Just curious since 90# seems light, but that an outsiders' perspective with limited personal knowledge.

Bear with the WOE and you should experience the same energy pick up soon.

        :wave hey, beri!

I just got your email (sorry, I am always a day late and a dollar short! lol), I was just gonna write you back when I saw your post. Look, don't get discouraged; things are happening even if you don't see them. We are both on days 6 and let me tell you, I don't feel different, I don't see anything differnt on me, my clothes still fit the same as they always have but I know that I have lost already (yeah, I cheated and weighed. ). You just have to have the belief in the results before you see them. Besides that, remember, this is not a diet and that kinda talk is diet mentality. :nod Remember, this is a WOE for life, not til you drop X amount of pounds. Ok? So don't feel bad or unhappy :hug , you are in this to get healthy as well as lose weight. So look at the bigger scope and don't worry about loss. Everything will work out! :joy

            Hi Beri :wave

I absolutely understand the feeling of frustration - one suggestion I want to make to you is to never, ever compare yourself to others.

This WOL is a journey and we all start off with a different initial experience, some people do indeed lose very quickly on Induction, other like me for instance are very slow going when it comes to weightloss, I've lost to pounds and gained back three.

Why? Because my body is going through profound changes, from detoxification and withdrawal of carbs and sugar, to fluctuating Insulin levels not to mention mood swings, headaches and I few other complaints I won't bore you with - and your body is too.

But maybe it's because this is my second time around with Atkins, I really don't care because I know...I know for a fact this WOL works, it just doesn't work at the same speed and within the same time frame for everyone. But it does work and that just can't be disputed. Don't measure yourself by what the scales or tape measures say...that information isn't important now

Many of the positive effects are already beginning to take place within your body and just because you might not see them right now is no reason to be discouraged. Believe me, they're there, you're on the right road - guaranteed.

As long as you have the 2002 version of the book "Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution" known around here as DANDR and are doing a clean Induction and using this board for the support you need you will succeed.

The opportunity to reinvent yourself, and to improve your physical and emotional health is right here and right now. You never have to back to that slow death way of eating again - ever...unless for some insane reason you wish too.

Tough it out, look past immediate results and just keep going, you will get there, trust me. trust the program, trust that you'll always have friends and the support you need to help you along right here - and most of all trust yourself.

Trust yourself to keep that promise of a slimmer healthier new you, not just for a few weeks or months but for your entire life time. So considering all those benefits that await you, don't let a few pounds or inches, lost or gained deter you at this early point of Induction. Rise above it, the best is yet to be.

It took me well over two weeks before I got the energy that people were talking about, so hang in there

Everyone is different. I wouldn't really go by weight though I would go by measurements. Just hang in there it will be worth it!

My ultimate goal is in the 90s too... I am around 5' and currently around 120-125ish depending on all sorts of factors I am unsure of! I don't understand how I can gain and lose 5lbs all in the matter of one day! Anyway... I don't seem to be losing much either. Oh yea, I am also only 20 so I would think I would lose more being so active... but who knows. It just really sucks knowing that in order to see a significant weightloss you have to really be overweight for immediate results. The body is a crazy thing.

Good luck however! If I were a bit closer to your current weight I might interest you in a little friendly competition, but by the looks of things I am far off!

                  Kelly!

                    Hi kelbel28 :wave
As you have about 30 pounds to lose you can expect a 1.5-3 pound loss in your 14 days of induction - any more will be a bonus.

Remember induction is not the main weightloss part of Atkins - Ongoing Weightloss (OWL) is.

Induction is meant just to clear your body of all the rubbish a 'normal' highcarb diet gives it, and start your body into fatburning mode.

As to the 'gain/lose 5 pounds in a day' situation - if you think about it when you eat food or drink water our bodies HAVE to gain weight temporarily as we are adding a certain weight of food/drink to them.

Over the 24 hours we all go up and down a few pounds while we 'process' the food and either expel it or use up the converted energy with exercise.
Personally I gain/lose 7 pounds or so each day.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
