  • Lettuce/Salads question...

    Hi, I was reading that you should eat 2-3 cups of salad (green leafy) a day, and it then went on to list vegetables you should also consume, staying at 20 carbs a day (on induction). So my question is, do you count the lettuce/salad carbs or is it that I should count the vegetable carbs up to 20 carbs and then still have 2-3 cups of salad? Or do I choose between the two for my carbs? I would appreciate any help you can give. Thanks, Hope

    Hello,
    Yes, you are allowed 2-3 cups of salad veggies, (page 125 DANDR). If you do eat 3 cups of salad veggies then you wouldn't eat off of the other veggie list. If you eat 2 cups of salad veggie ( your choice of salad veggies besides lettuce) Then you are allowed to choose one cup off of the other Veggie list,(pade 126, DANDR).
    Count ALL veggie carbs. Don't forget to subtract the fiber to get Net Carbs.

        Wow, I think I have been totally wrong on the salad veggie understanding!!! So, if I have 2 cups of romaine lettuce, that doesn't count towards my salad veggies??? Because I was counting lettuce this whole time as my 2 cups of veggies!

          Yes, you do count your 2 cups of lettuce as your salad veggies. Then you are allowed either one more cup of salad veggies OR one cup of veggies off of the OTHER veggie list. Your allowed 3 cups of veggies total, for Induction.

          RULES OF INDUCTION

          Rule #3- Eat no more than 20 grams a day of carbohydrates, most of which must come in the form of salad greens and other vegetables.You an eat approximately three cups--loosely packed--of salad, or two cups of salad plus one cup of other vegetables(see the list of acceptable vegetables on page 125-126).

            Ok I misunderstood your post then!

            When you said "your choice of salad veggies besides lettuce" I thought you meant you can get your choice of veggies besides (as in not including) lettuce.
