Re: starting induction
Good luck! NO bacon if it has sugar in it. Have an omelet instead. Dedicate yourself to a clean induction for 2 weeks. You are worth it!!Elsie150

Re: starting induction
Butchers are not that much more expensive and at least you know what you're eating
Aspartame is not a good sugar substitute, choose splenda instead. If you like it a lot then go to your local grocery store and buy the box which ends up cheaper. Straight cream for your coffee is the best choice because milk has sugar in it. No worries, once you get used to the routine, it'll flow naturally..Started January 6th 2003 / 200/164/140

Re: starting induction
I am only on Atkins for one month and I am amazed at how much my taste and portions sizes have changed. If you follow the plan to the letter and do a clean Induction you will find this diet is not expensive as you dont eat large portions. I found www.fitday.com to be an excellent tool to find out if I was eating under the 20 grams of carbs. You want to limit all sugar so you dont promote an Insulin spike in your body. Sugar in any amount will limit your ability to acheive Ketosis. Cafiene can create cravings in some people, but if your like me and refuse to give up coffee Switch your half and half for heavy cream (sugar in half and half). I was a person who always needed 3 packets of splenda in each cup of coffee. We are only allowed three packets of splenda a day. I have actually given up the sweetners and I dont even miss them.
There is so much info on this site you cant fail! I look forward to reading about your progress.

Re: starting induction
Remember you are limited to 3-4 oz of heavy cream a day. Also while you are out shopping buy the book. A small investment to learn how to do this WOE correctly so you can have the best success you can. Limited to 3 artificial sweetners a day also. You will get used to the less sweet taste. I used to add a ton of sugar to my coffee as well and I am down to 1 splenda. Also read the stickies in this forum and the main forum. There is no point 'kinda' doing Atkins...you will only be cheating yourself. You can do this!!Elsie150

Re: starting induction
The 2002 edition? That is the one followed here. I only ask because it says in there about no sugar and which sweetners are okay and the limits with the artificial sweetners. So already you have done 2 things that are not accepted in the 2002 version. In the older version it is about limiting yourself to 20 carbs. In the updated version it spelled out more as to what they should consist of as Dr A had learned more. I am not trying to be mean or anything but am trying to help as I would hate to have you learn about the limits and restrictions after you have been doing what you thought was the right way for a week or so. No sense you wasting time doing it wrong. Anyway...good luck! Make sure you get your 3 cups of veggies in every day and to measure yourself.Elsie150

Re: starting induction
the last copyright date on mine is 2002 so i'm assuming it's the right one. even with the aspartame and half and half i'm well under my 20 carbs. now that i have splenda and heavy cream i'll try my coffee with that. coffee doesn't make me crave sweets so i don't see why i have to give it up.
