  • Less Than Obvious Induction FAQs

I've been on extended induction for weeks because my weight loss suddenly stalled after three weeks. At the prompting of some of the members of this board, I actually went back to formula; reading Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution 2002 with a fine tooth comb!

Guess what? Atkins Induction is not just about avoiding bread, pasta, and sweets. The results were shocking. Here are some crucial facts that I completely missed my first time out.

    Coffee and Herbal Teas
Everyone should try to avoid caffeine! Grain beverages (coffee substitutes) are not allowed. Some herbal teas are also made with fruit extracts, which may add additional sugar.

    Lemon & Lime Juice

Limit to 3 tbsp daily (1 tbsp = 1.5 grams of carbs)Weight Loss and Good Health The Atkins Way

    Splenda has Carbs
Dr Atkins says "Each packet of Splenda contains 1 gram of carbohydrate, so don't forget to include the amount in your daily totals". Each packet of Splenda also contains 4 calories. 24 packets provide the sweetness of one cup of sugar.

    Special Category Foods
Per DANDR 2002, "To add variety, each day you can also eat ten to twenty olives, half a small avocado, one ounce of sour cream, or three ounces of unsweetened heavy cream, as well as two to three tablespoons of lemon juice or lime juice.

    Avoid Prepared Foods
If you didn't make it, you aren't sure what's in it! This is a hard lesson to learn. For example, I was eating Tuna Salad I purchased from a local deli three times a week before I noticed it contained sugar!

All Carbs Count! (Check out this carb-counter)Not all salad vegies or acceptable foods are made equal. For example, 1 cup of raw diced broccoli = 2.92g

    Those are some great observations!

Have you considered moving up the OWL rungs (I can't remember if you said you were thinking about it or not)? OWL rung is just adding more veggies---more veggies is a good thing

No. I have over 75 lbs to loose and have decided on extended induction. Also, I don't believe I've been doing a 'clean' induction
