Not that I know what heroin is like? But kicking sugar is hard...any suggestions? I have read the "wait it out and don't feed your sweet tooth" but when I need a fix are there any good suggestions?

Re: Kicking Sugar like Kicking Heroin?
That's the best one.
Like heroine, like alcohol, meth.. all of them. . . the best and safest thing to do is not to feed it. It's like an allergic reaction and you MUST have more... One is too many, and a thousand is never enough
Granted, with opiates you do get physical pain, and some of us sugar/carb addicts get the same way.. physical/mental manifestations of kicking our habits.
Wait it out!! I have and every time its been worth it. The one time I didnt, I was off on a binger for 9 months!!!!! When you're sugar you can handle your cravings because you want something to enjoy, not cause its sweet, proceed carefully and ennjoy. But defiinitely after 2 weeks induction

Re: Kicking Sugar like Kicking Heroin?
Whenever I get suger crazed i make a cup of decaf coffee with 2 tablespoons heavy cream and 2 packets splenda. I limit it to one a day though, 2 if i only put 1 tablespoon cream and 1 packet splenda but that doesnt really satisfy the sugar monster.25/F

Re: Kicking Sugar like Kicking Heroin?
Don't feed it that's like letting the junkee have a little bit - but smelling sugar can be hard on cravings, too. Changing the subject to something salty might work, and given time, the monster should go away. Exception for me is the occasional PMS-TOM monster, which is appeased by a little cocoa in water with either butter or cream & a packet of sweetener to get it on its way

Re: Kicking Sugar like Kicking Heroin?
Welcome!
Eat something on the plan like turkey or cheese with mayo - see if that works.
Or some cucumber with blue cheese dressing. In other words, have some go-to snacks. Plus, eat your meals. Also, exercise regularly.
I have done the coffee with cream and Splenda which is a real treat, but this opens the door to more sweet tasting stuff like berries which are hard to stop eating.
Over the long haul if you can avoid the true junk food and have a little of these acceptable foods on the food list, you will be better off.
There may be a addictive aspect to this also like you said. Here's a link where we are finding some research on leptin and discussing it. Please join in.

Re: Kicking Sugar like Kicking Heroin?
My suagr craving are GONE GONE GONE. I was a total adict. Seriously. i could go to Walgreens and buy $20 in candy and sit and eat it all in a night. Now I have my decaf coffee with stevia in it and it's not even about the sweet -it about warmth and calm for me. I don't crave sugar at al. Inf act last night this comercial came on for HUGE chocolately muffins and I was like "gross" i couldn't even IMAGINE eating it. Every once in awhile I feel a temptation..... eat protien when you get the craving. cheese, meat. Gum helped me in a pinch....I found that there simply is NO substitute you have to bear through it and detox.
Hang in there!
I lost 45lbs before atkins and battled the WHOLE time with hunger and sugar and then switched over to Atkins and have lost 30#. But the first 45 I felt restircted and confined. Like I was constantly denying myself. this last 30 has been so much better. I did a clean induction and the sugar and caffeine withdrawl was BRUTAL - but it is so worth it on the other side!
Hang in there!
