  • To settle this once and for all....

I know that my ticker says that my goal weight is 90 lbs. I am currently at 103 lbs, because after 7 days of Induction, I have lost 5 lbs.

I know that 90 lbs seems very light and very small and almost anorexic or unhealthy, but i am ONLY FIVE FEET TALL. That amount of weight on my size of frame is not bad, its a nice weight to have.

So instead of PMing all of you who have asked....i hope this saved me some time and answered it for you all.

Glad and reassured to hear you have chosen a sensible goal weight for your height and frame Beri.

You have just 'benefitted/suffered' from the caring 'mother hen' aspect of being a member of this worldwide family :hug

To stop receiving concerned messages in the future why not add your height and framesize to your signature, so new people would be able to tell you are not on the verge of an eating disorder and so wont be worried about you.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

        Beri:

First, a great big congrats on your 5# loss!!! Good job!!! That's amazing progress considering the total amount you have to lose!

And I agree -- you'll save yourself a whole bunch of future aggravation if you add your height to your profile. It isn't that we're picking on you -- it's that we care. We have had members here before that were 5'8" and trying to get to 90 lbs... so hope you understand, it's simply a concern for our members' health that causes us to ask.

Your post did make me feel good. I've lost 99 lbs on Atkins to date (124 overall) -- and that means I lost YOU - a whole person - holding a 9 lb cat! LOL Boy, that put things into perspective real quick

        Continued success on your journey....

I'll interject here for a moment.

"Normal" weight for a person 5 feet tall is between 95 to 123 pounds. That weight range is within the "healthy" weight range for the BMI (18.5-25). 90 pounds will give a BMI of about 17.5

While BMI doesn't account for age and muscle mass, it's still a decent guide to "proper" weight. In fact for children and adolescents it's the weight standard. Also, because we live in a world with a number of overweight to severely overweight people, we are well versed with the problems associated with obesity. Unfortunately, we've forgotten the health hazards of being underweight.

I agree. I think people need to STOP worrying about the numbers on the scale and start looking at their body fat%. 90 pounds at 5 foot and 25% body fat is nowhere NEAR as healthy as 115 pounds at 18% body fat. See where I'm going? I'm no longer concerned with what the scale says. I'm only 5'3", but if I am 160 pounds & 18% body fat, then I'll be happy.

BODY FAT, not total body weight, is what everyone should be concerned with.
