As Elizellen posted beet greens---the green leaves of beets are allowed during Induction. The root part isn't. By the way, I think beet greens are more delicious than spinach or Swiss chard.

Use this as a learning experience and move on. Just be sure to really read that list carefully.

Re: oh no! I ate beets!!

Here is the nutritional info on a 1/2 cup of cooked, drained beets.

            http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcom...st_nut_edit.pl

The net carbs are less than 6, so while beets may not be on the induction list, a bowl of homemade borscht will do little or no harm! Hope you enjoyed!

That may or may not be the case. It's just not the amount of carbs, it's how those carbs affect your body, specifically in terms of the glycemic index. That's why during OWL, some people have no problems eating 5 net carbs of broccoli, but can't tolerate 5 net carbs of cantaloupe.

But as I wrote, charene should chalk this up to a learning experience, and be more vigilant the next time.

It might be a mistake on their part. After Dr. Atkins died, atkins.com has undergone several changes.

But in the book that Dr. Atkins wrote, beet greens are an acceptable vegetable.
